Thinking about getting a Shadow 2, but not sure if it is good to get the optics ready version as lease likely would go to competition shooting or just the standard version?

After watched this Youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLzTp5HMuQU, I notice the optics ready one doesn't have the rear sight. So does that mean getting a optics sight is a must for this optics ready version of Shadow 2? Or is there any standard rear sight for Shadow 2 can be purchased and mounted too when I don't want to use the optics to practice shooting? Don't really want to get 2 identical pistol just because one doesn't have rear sight.

Thanks in advance.

try checking the CZ-USA, they have a sight plate that comes with a rear sight dovetail. I preorder the S2 Optic Ready, and hopfefull that it also comes with plate or rear sight, although planning to use for IPSC Prod. Optic Div.

Thank you.

Do you have the link for that? The CZ-USA site is quite confusing to find stuff.

Check the CZUB site: ###xx://www.czub.cz/en/cz-shadow-2-or.html

The mounts are at the bottom of the page.
Thank you.

Those mounts at the bottom of the page don't have images right? Or it's my computer having problem to display them. Just try to get an idea what the mounts would be like and if anything else might be needed.

The information I have is not only will the OR Shadow 2 not come with a plate with a rear sight it will not come with any mounting plate for optics, that will be an add on purchase to the gun.

That would be disappointing. I recently made a huge deviation away from CZ for my IDPA set up and bought a Sig P320 X5. I liked that the Sig Romeo 1 fits without a mounting plate but I understand that there is no industry standard in mounting holes amongst RDS manufacturers.

I found that disappointing as well. Most Optic ready models come with multiple mount options other than Sig who are trying to force you to run their dot.

I also find that disappointing. With the possible 3lbs trigger IPSC rule change in 2019 and the fact you have to buy the plates I'm thinking about cancelling my pre-order and just stick with my Q5 Match.

With the rule change that is supposed to allow milling I am considering just buying a second SP-01 Shadow and getting them both milled. Then I have no issues making weight in USPSA Carry Optics and I am legal on both sides of the border.

The Shadow 1 with a milled slide would be an awesome setup. I wish they allowed milled slides from the start. Maybe it would entice more competitors into the production optic division.

Off topic, but how do you like shooting USPSA? I was checking out some of the nationals on Facebook today and thinking of trying it out.

Why not just put a mount like a Henning on a shadow 1 and an optic of your choice?

What is the advantage of milling slides?

The idea is that with milling, the optic sits a bit closer to the bore. I have a Shadow with the Henning mount and an M&P Core both with Vortex Venoms and there's a difference in sight picture vs. height of pistol presentation.

I like shooting USPSA, any excuse to shoot another match seems like a good idea to me. I like some of the different rules like not having to stay in the fault lines and target array rules so you see different challenges. Then the real fun comes when you shoot any division other than Production, starting with 23 rounds in the gun in Carry Optics is a hoot!

You can always buy the mounting plate for $40, or $70 for multiple RD . Its not a disappointment for me, still a better option than milling the slide locally, for warranty issue.

Appreciate that cllarification.

Yeah, I'm for milling the slide for optics over a mount the is over the slide. It doesn't seem like a lot since it's just a few millimeters but it does make a difference to me. Too bad we can't buy the optics ready slide separately.
