Hi there experienced pistol shooters. Looking at getting a new pistol for bullseye target shooting. Have it narrowed down to the cz shadow 2 or a 1911 in 9mm with adjustable sights. Which one do you think would be better for general range target pistol? Thanks

The Shadow2 is an amazing gun, and just saying "1911" is very vague, what brand?

Have you held a Shadow2? They are extremely high build quality, and nothing else at that price range (or even more) can touch it.

The internet is full of excellent reviews for them.

I assume it’s about 9mm guns.
If that’s the case, CZ is the least troublesome with any ammo, mags are cheap and reliable.
I use Shadow 2 for IPSC. From an RO prospective, speaking of the ammo-mag-related issues 1911s are probably the worst in 9mm.

The 1911 platform is an outstanding one. Most if not all of the best & outstandingly accurate out-of-the-box high end 1911 autos will approach C$3000.00. All the other lesser 1911 production guns should cost half that, or C$1500.00.

An optics ready CZ Shadow2 approaches C$1400.00, with the stsndard model CZ S2 around C$1250.00.
CZ's beat 1911's on price easily. The superior CZ SP01 Shadow kills all 1911's priced C$1000.00 & under. My contention is that the CZ S2 beats all 1911's on every feature up to the C$3000.00 price level.

Hatman is right.
Between the range officer and the shadow 2. The s2 get my vote.
But in the more high end 1911 it’s another story.
I have a les bear 1911 premier 2 in 9mm. One day I rented a sp01 shadow to compare.
The 1911 is much more easy to shoot tight group. The trigger and the fit is at another level but it cost 3x more.

I've got an Ed Brown 1911 in .45acp (IMHO the calibre it was designed for) and a Shadow 2 in 9mm. I personally wouldn't get a 1911 in 9mm but to each his own. The CZ2 is great, love it.

OP when you say "bullseye target shooting" do you mean standing with a two handed grip punching paper or the competitive one handed target shooting? Big difference in requirements.

Not competitive, just two handed grip punching paper for fun. But would like to get the most accuracy from my next purchase. Funny thing yesterday I was at the range and the guy right next to me pulls out a Ruger sr1911 in 9mm. I talked to him about it and he says he rally likes it. I watched him shoot it for a while and it ran flawlessly. Reason I am considering the 1911 in 9 is people I have talked to say they have the best triggers, crisp and light and break like a glass rod.

Virtually every manufacturer makes a 1911 of some kind or other, so triggers vary. The shadow was designed as a competition gun from the word go where the 1911 was designed as a duty sidearm that also happens to be very accurate out of the box and can very easily be tuned and upgraded. which is one of the reasons everyone makes one. I am one of those guys ( you know the ones that think a 9mm 1911 borders on heresy) I would go shadow in 9mm and 1911 in 45acp. That is a route I don't think you would regret

A properly tuned 9mm trigger will break like a glass rod but most will feel like all the rest and will need someone who knows what they are doing to do it right. I have owned and shot them all, but for me the CZ 2 is the hands down winner. Pretty much turn key right out of the box but if you did want to tune it yourself, get a spring kit and watch a couple of youtube videos and you should be good to go. It's not rocket science to do a spring swap on a CZ. Better yet, take a trip to a local IPSC match and see what most people are running. I'll almost bet the CZ will be the post prolific.

If you want a nice single action trigger on a cz shadow 2, the sao trigger is cheap and works great, can be tuned up to compete with most 1911's, IMHO

I have never seen anyone shoot a CZ Shadow with a sao in IPSC. I can't understand why people are making it seem like lowering the hammer and having the first shot da is such a big deal. All that tells me is that people need to get more seat time behind the trigger instead of playing internet cowboys.
