What power factor works best in your Shadows ?

I'm currently @ 131 pf & having lots of FTF & poor accuracy.

My current load is: 124 gr Cam Pro & 4.5 gr W231

Thanks in advance.

Original recoil spring (i have a low power one on hand).

OAL @ 1.08 - 1.07 (My chamber seems to prefer shorter rounds. They won't fit if they are 1.09 or longer)

I'll try the lower power spring tonite.

I have to load shorter than what is listed in the manuals to get reliable feeding. I also had to get a Lee sizing die because my Dillon did not get far enough down the case. Seems the Dillon has more taper at the bottom.

3.8 grains of titegroup behind a 124 grain bullet is working for me at about 135PF

First I would up your charge to 4.7 gr of 231. As to length of cartrdge here is the easiest way to determine OAL for you gun.

A) Remove barrel from gun
B) Drop a bullet into the chamber and measure from the base of bullet to the barrel hood where the cartridge case normally sits flush.
C) Measure the length of the bullet
D) Add the two measurements together and reduce by a couple of thousandths. That will give you the best OAL for that bullet in that gun.

I found the Cam-Pro bullets to be extremely accurate in my Shadow but that doesn't mean they will be in yours. Try a few loads using 4.7 gr of 231 and shoot from a rest at 10 yards then at 15 and tell us how you make out.

PM me your email address and I can send you my spreadsheet I have developed using my F 1 chrono.

Take Care

titegroup 3.8 ~ 3.9 gr and zero bullet 124 gr. works like a charm on my Shadow, actually i have two shadows now and it functions on both handguns. 1070 FPS at the QC provincials

Dinsdale. I told a fib. I looked in my part box & I allready changed out the factory recoil spring to a 13 lb.

Mrclean.....i have changed out the mainspring to lower my trigger pull to 6.5 lbs on DA.

Toxic.....I use the same die set up. Dillon for Decapping, Powder & Seating. Lee FCD for final crimp. I adjust to a light crimp (1/3 turn down)

Canuck44....Thanks for the info. I've never heard of dong that. I will do and report back. I also agree that my PF might be too light. I remember a conversation I had will Gunnar last year. I think he suggested the same change to a fellow shooter in PG who was having similar problems.

As for accuracy...the test sheet from the factory showed the gun shooting low-left at 25 metres. I'll have to check with the red rule book, but mayby y'all can chime in. If i install CZ adjustable rear sights (from CZ USA), will I still be legal for Production?

Thanks again for the info provided.

You should check with Jason (guy who won production on the weekend) as he knows shadows inside out. i can tell you that Cathy shoots 147 BDX ammo in her's and she has no problems.

as for sights for as long as you do not have to cut the slide to put them on they are perfectly legal.

Additionally to talking with JB and others, I'd get on the 147 Aim bullets and tightgroup...or maybe Walter can hook you up with N320. Burns like TG, but way cleaner with a low powered production load...

I didn't shoot PD on weekend as i tried open and standard...

Currently i shoot 124gr speers with 4.1 titegroup and it comes out at 133PF with a OAL of 1.109 in my shadows...I tried a lighter PF and had ocasional stovepipes and i have also found crimp and using the LEE undersize die very important in feeding the beast ..Accuracy is good....

If i can help let me know!!!

I have use the 147BDX ammo in my Shadow,...and another shadow, and my Stock 2 and had absolutely no problems. I made 136.5 PF at the NB provincials with this same ammo. Only thing different in the shadows was the hammer spring.

I did some range testing yesterday. The accuracy @ 10 & 15 yds is good (shot from a rest on a bench). Only had one FTF from the same batch of reloads (fat primer not fully seated).

So, I need to spend more time at the range, inspect all reloads better, and bump my PF up a wee bit.

Thanks for all the input & advice.
