So, got a new Shadow earlier this week, to the range tonight to run some rounds through it, and mag change practice etc..

While doing a mag change, 4....5.....6 rounds still in the mag, the top round is being forced forward....after the chambered round is stripped, and the mag won't drop free, because that top round is binding on the front of the "magwell?????"

I am running 125 gr Zero's, 4 gr Titegroup, 1.1" Length. Original Recoil Spring.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

CZ 10 rounds mags are very cheap and when you drop them several times on concrete with remaining rounds in them, the lips open and the first round may cause FTF, FTE or whatever jam that exist.

Use some pliers and bend the side of the body at +/- ¾ inch from top to reduce the width between the lips, you can do it without removing the follower if you push it

When you look from the side with 10 rounds in the mag, the lip should be parallel with the round casing

Correct me if I'm getting it wrong:

You have about half mag full left after firing a few rounds, then you press on mag release and mag won't drop on its own.
If that's the case, following is happening - you still have a round in chamber and top round in the mag has been dragged forward and is hanging on feed ramp. In most cases one would fix it by replacing stock mag springs with extra (+10%) springs.

Keep mag lips' gap at 0.358" too.

Yep.....that sounds about right.....

Thanks........more money flying out of the wallet!.....DOH!!!!

And I see:

Common Issues/Modifications to Improve Function......Issue # 2 seems to be in play....thanks for the lead!

Try polishing the strip on pic in the link first.

But if you really need the springs (I replace mine as soon as I get new mags; they usually last 5K+ rounds per spring after), I have a few new +10% extras, I can let you have them @ $8 each, they can be mailed via letter.

Before you do anything else - $$$$$$ wise - bevel the leading edge of the breechblock and put a tiny bit of oil on it when you are shooting. I had the same problem you have and that is how I cured it.

I shot Shadows for a few years and never changed a mag spring or messed with the lips on a mag. Of course I avoided dropping my mags on concrete :)

My Shadow did this from day one and I did the polish of the rail and more importantly broke the edge of the bottom of the breechface and problem was solved immediately. Ceezer's recommendation however is something else I recommend.

has anyone ever seen this cause a live round to fall out of the gun when doing a mag change? I'm at about 6,000 rounds through my new gun I got in June and a couple times I've done a speed reload, with a few rounds left in the mag I'm dumping and I'll see a live round fall out as the mag comes out. I don't experience any jams or malfunctions, and the mag lips are fine. I can't get it to happen on purpose, it just shows up now and then, and never the same mag either. slide is forward and in battery with a round chambered.

no but if you're doing your mag changes VERY slowly on every stage next time we shoot the same match I may have a chance to get an higher % at the end of the day:D:D

Pretty sure I just saw Euxx's gun do this today.
btw...the polishing and beveling seemed to resolve my issue...thanks!

There are two possible scenarios:

1) you drop the mag with round partially hanging on feed ramp which get's stripped from the mag during mag drop, and round follows down mag well to the floor; since slide is forward, round has nowhere else to go but to fall out from mag well;
2) you drop the mag on (indoor) cement floor and round comes flying from the mag as a result of the impact with the floor. It just gets knocked out from the mag fitting the floor.

I have had this happen with my short ammo loaded to 1.090". I think where it is so short the round has more room to come forward, and when the mag is on its way out the round finds itself the rest of the way out of the magazine, and falls out free with the magazine.

try the modified slide release that cz usa have
of file the one you got (and tell those RO nazi rule book masterfukc to shove it with minor detailing a PD gun)until the round clears
put the round really close to the front of the mag to test if it's in the way

I run the proper reduced slide lock so I know the rounds aren't hitting it. however that issue causes premature slide lock, not rounds being stripped from the mag early. I'll take a look at the underside of my breechface later this morning and see what I can find. last day out I shot 1200 rounds in around 3 hours and it happened twice. didn't mess anything, just caught my attention. It could have happened more often on speed drills when I was focusing on other things, but twice I saw it.
rounds popping out of the mags is very common no matter what gun I am running, if they hit rocks or cement, just the right way. that's why picking mags up to re-use them in a COF is a baaaad idea.

I have the same problem. I never dropped the megs on the ground also my megs rattle when loaded ten rounds
I email cz about the rattle and the rounds jamming in side the mag I got a reply from them saying it's a problem you inherited
