CZ Shadow: Play between slide and frame

Hi everyone,

I just picked up a new SP-01 Shadow from a site sponsor and have found that there is play between the slide and the frame. Is this normal for a Shadow? None of my other pistols have as much play as this new Shadow. There is enough play that I can cause an auditory clack when moving the slide both up and down, and side to side. The play is more pronounced at the muzzle end than it is closer to the rear, but is present all the way along the slide. I have not yet shot the pistol, nor have I contacted the dealer as they are closed till next week.

Is this normal for an SP-01 Shadow? Am I being too picky? I would prefer to hear your thoughts on this before I shoot the pistol as to facilitate an easy return to the vendor should I choose to do so.

Thoughts?

Thanks everyone,
Cal.

I'd say that this is not crucial, but probably just mentally keeps you unhappy. Remember, this is mass production service gun, and it doesn't have tight fit, especially recently. I found that QA is dropped comparing to 2 years ago.
I had same issue and it did't affect accuracy. What is important is a barrel to frame fit with closed slide. However, gunsmith has procedure to make them tighter and this is what I did with my shadow line.

Well this is not a service gun.....it is purpose built for IPSC PD competition.

Anyhow......how does the gun shoot?? If it is accurate and reliable who cares if it clicks or clacks?

What briefly is the procedure?

Thanks John. I do know the purpose of the pistol. As I mentioned in my OP, none of my other pistols have this much play in them, which has raised this as a point of concern for me. I posted looking to find out if others have experienced the same, or if mine appears to be a one-off. As I posted in the OP I prefer to hear other's opinion on this before I fire the pistol as to facilitate an easy return to the vendor should that be the direction I choose to go.

So tell me, how is your Shadow? Do you have any play between the slide and frame?

Thanks,
Cal.

Yes it has some....I just checked :)

This is the 4th Shadow I have owned. No idea how the others were. I never checked....as long as there were accurate and reliable I was satisfied. This one is every bit as good as the others I have used. Dead accurate and very reliable.

My Shadow 2008 production year (OMG time goes so fast), has absolutely no play whatsoever.
It is at least as tight or even tighter than my STI Trojan.

Thanks John, that's good to know. Out of curiosity, how have you gone through so many shadows?

Thanks John,
Cal.

The play in the slide to frame is only an issue if represented down range when shooting. Much like a Beretta does with its locking block, during the firing sequence everything locks together tight as the slide starts it's movement. Excessive play would be noticeable downrange, if there isn't any, no worries.
Current production Shadows are typically much better fit than ones even 4 years ago, and Shadowmates and Oranges even more so.

And yes they are still a service gun, Serbia for instance, issues them to their ERT types.

Okay, unless I'm doing it wrong, my shadow has no audible clicks or clacks unless I start racking the slide.

Thanks Protege. I using my index finger and thumb I can pinch the slide and the picatinny rail together and visually see the slide move vertically. The same can be experienced when pushing the slide side to side. When I move the pistol imitating recoil I can hear the slide and frame clack together.

It's beginning to sound like the play I have on mine is not the norm for a Shadow. Thanks everyone for comparing against your pistols.

Thanks,
Cal.

I have an SP01 Shadow and a SP01 Canadian Edition............ the Shadow has had approx 3000 to 4000 rounds through it, just checked it, tighter than a ..... you know what I was gonna say. The Canadian has had only a few hundred rounds through it, no noise or movement either.

Now that you put it that way, yes my slide moves just a bit when done that way. Both front and back. I'm not too worried about it myself.

I'm surprised some are reporting their Shadows have no movement. I've felt two SP01 Shadows manufactured around 2011-2012 that both had play. And I've felt two SP01 Shadowlines manufactured 2013-2014 that both had play.
