CZ Shadow SP01 IPSC, magwells ? worth it? and if so where to get em

I need to get my black badge yet. I own a 22lr gun only, and from my experience in handling guns in my club I came to conclusion that I really like the feel of phantom over Glock 17 and others. I chose Shadow to be my first gun, which I will use for black badge course and future IPSC competitions. I am a student and on really tight budget (Not yet ready for expensive mods) and I am not sure that I understand this nonsense about "nobody shoots shadow in production". I need a gun for competition out of the box for start. Am I choosing right gun for that purpose?
I Don't mean to hijack topic.
Thanks

they are making an inside joke that even though its called "production" everyone swaps out and changes parts on their shadows with wild abandon. It's legal but does make the division title of "production" ironic

D4M1R, you might be better served with the normal
shadow with thin aluminum grips as opposed to
the Phantom, which if I recall is a decocker model.
The shadow gives you the option of DA first shot
or going "cocked and locked" which is not usable in a
Match in production division but you will have a bit
Easier time on you black badge course and can ease
Into the DA first shot concept on your own time/lower
stress situation.

I say forget the tricks and knicknacks... learn to reload... learn to shoot the double action (prep the trigger on sight alignment).

There's already no easier pistol on the market than a shadow for cramming a magazine into the mag well. Handicaping yourself with a magwell funnel just means you'll never learn to reload properly.

+1. Great advice.

If you got a shadow and you don't have much coin your best bet is to shoot production with NO mag funnel. The shadow is a double stack mag and super easy to get a mag into. If you want to spend money on something spend it on a mainspring, ammo and lessons from an experienced IPSC shooter.

If you are just starting out why worry about major/minor? A magwell is worth it because it helps with mag changes. Shooting minor in Standard is only a problem if you don't shoot all A's - something most competitors shooting major fail to do anyway.

If you suck at mag change, you should spend more range time or even better, practice your mag change on a dry gun. The Shadow is one of the easiest pistol to acheive a mag change. Learn the fundamentals before blowing your money on useless crap.
