Waiting for mine to arrive. Any comments on how these shoot?
Are they easy to clean? Any problems?
What kind of MODs should I be looking at.
Thanks

Easy as pie to clean. For mods you can do the simple one or the fancy one.

The simple one is to do the trick of putting an extra 5 to 8 pounds of force onto the hammer and then pull the trigger in single action. Repeat 10 to 15 times. This should greatly improve the feel of the single action trigger quickly. Or shoot around a thousand times to do the same thing.... :D

The fancy option is to get some springs from Ghost Products out of the US. You want the light hammer spring. Get two or three. If it's the same as mine was you can then trim about 2.5 coils off it and use it like that. If they have a lighter guage trigger return spring (can't remember) get one of those as well. Doing these options will reduce your double action pull to around 6 to 7 lbs. It'll feel like butter. There's also a couple of web pages out there (google for cz trigger job) that will lead you through some light polishing.

But really these are great guns right out of the box. Just go out and shoot for now other than maybe doing the stressed hammer trick.

As for issues the only one is keeping enough ammo around for it and trying to get used to the ache from your smile muscles.... :D

Answer to your first question: Better than any production 9mm out there :D

Yep, install a 13# main spring to reduce the double action pull. I've yet to have a light primer strike with that lighter spring.

Use the factory recoil spring for commercial loads, a 14# spring for full power reloads and and 11# spring for light competition loads (130 power factor for IPSC).

Get a snap cap in 'er and double action to your heart content in front of the TV to break in that double action trigger.

I just ordered my Shadow today! I was also himmin' and hawin' about the Kadet kit or a separate .22lr. I decided on the kit. So I'm pretty excited. (First handgun. What a long process - one more hurdle with the LTATT)

Anything special for a first clean on these? When i was playing with some CZs in the store, they were literally dripping in oil.

I have a shadow which I have had about 4 months, I have put about 3000 rds through it, not one issue,,,easy to clean. As far as the oil on it from new,,,give it a good cleaning. And lube the parts requiring lube. The gun is very accurate great production gun.

Mine has been outstanding. I put a 13# mainspring in my gun and like others have yet to have a light strike. The 13# spring gave my gun a DA trigger pull of just over 5#s. I know at our IPSC Qualifier the hammer moved backwards but did not go all the way back when I went through the chrono/trigger check.

Gun is very accurate and reliable. The only other gun I would consider is the M&P Pro but I have not seen one advertised up here yet,

Take Care

Bob

Thanks Guys. I"ll try the simple solution first, regarding the trigger. I realize it's double action, however it's a semi-auto, so doesn't the hammer always reset.
I've been shooting my Glock 17 for a couple of years and love it. I have the advantage arms .22 for it. The thing shoots no problem non stop. I just want something to switch to every now and then. I've tryed the M&P and a Beretta. I like the idea of having a full metal as well as a polymer frame.

Don't listen to any crap about wearing in the single action. Doesn't need it.

SA is excellent right out of the box.

Like the guys said...respring it if you plan on shooting it for IPSC Production or IDPA SSP. If you are just shooting for fun or IPSC Standard/IDPA ESP no new springs are needed to get started.

The double action is only an issue if shooting IPSC PD or IDPA SSP as your first shot must be DA...after that it is SA all the way...

DO NOT cut any coils off the springs if you plan to shoot IPSC PD...modifications of this type are NOT allowed.

Have fun..they are a very nice pistol.

Woops... Sorry JoJo. Didn't mean to interject into your thread without adding anything. *blush* My new toy jubilation. (New to the CGN forum thing too you can see! What is this post 3?)

Congrats on your new addition.

- first time cleaning - take rubber grips off to make it easier;
- break it in with 100-200 factory rds;
- if you bought it for IPSC/USPSA - install 13# main and 11# recoil springs;

there are other things you can do later too...

the DA is unreal with a 13# mainspring. Sooo smooth and slick. It's like night and day. Not that it was bad out of the box, it was smooth, but a bit heavy for my taste.

I replaced my FO front sight with a regular sight since I shoot it at 50 yards. I found the FO too large for fine aiming past 25. It also fixed the problem with it shooting a bit high. The only downside is that they only have a 7.5mm height sight, so you have to file it down to the right height.

Oh, for 50 yards yeah you do need a bit of hold over. I love the FO front sight it really makes grabbing and stabilizing the sight picture much faster and for normal ranges it's fine. When I shot it at a Speed Steel match and we had a 50 yard target I just set the aim point near the top of the target and got the DING! without an issue.

From all the nit picking over minor issues I guess you can tell that we're all ecstatic about our Shadows. In my case it was chosen only after having had a chance to put boxes of ammo through about 9 other 9mm pistols thanks to shooting at a Rent-A-Gun range. When I got to try a Shadow set up with the spring mods all the others were immediately forgotten. Not only did it have the lovely trigger but it fit my hands to a T. The only other gun that comes close is my single stack 1911.

Yeah, there is nothing wrong with the FO for most shooting sports. If you're aiming at the 10 ring from 50 yards, it's nice to have it more precise than a big red dot. Not like I can hit the damn 10 ring at 50...or the 9 or the 8 on purpose. I keep it on the cardboard though (mostly...:redface:)

I've personally replaced the front F/O sight with a smaller one, which I've loved, which makes long distance shooting a bit easier for me.

About the oil dripping off this gun when it comes out of the box: you'd want to clean that off thoroughly. It's packing oil, not the type you'd usually want to use in oiling your gun to shoot. The reason there's so much of it is because the gun is assembled overseas and shipped by boat and they don't want to the air over the sea, saturated with salt, rusting the gun.

You're right about the reset on S/A and there's no reason to toy with the single action pull but you would want to lessen the D/A pull for shooting IPSC as the first shot in production division has to be a double action shot (hence the need to have guns capable of double action). In standard division, you don't need this option, but you'd be competing against people with suped-up 1911/2011s and it would a bit silly to shoot a standard shadow in this division unless there's another mitigating circumstance. I find this gun's strength to be that it offers a strong 1911-like platform in a pistol capable of D/A shoot.

I recieved my Shadow today and it looks and feels great. The packing oil was real heavy, however after cleaning it and oiling up, the gun is so sweet. Feels great in my hand, I really like the weight. The trigger on these is the smoothest pull I've ever felt in a hand gun. The only trigger close is on the Marlin cowboy 357/38 rifle. I will wait on any Mods, cause I don't compete right now.
I can't wait to get to the range and fire a coulpe of hundred rounds off.
Mine didn't come with a speed loader, did anyone get one when you bought yours?
The only thing that concerns me about this firearm is the sights. It seems you can't adjust the elevation on these factory sights. What can I do if it shoots too high or low out of the box?
Anyways, I'm real happy with this purchase, and I haven't even fired it yet. :)

I've got about 1000 rounds through my SP01 Shadow, not a problem, and accurate with whatever ammo i shoot, I've never seen anything like it, it just eats everything!

Excellent pistol. The factory trigger pull is fine. I'd try it as is before you go replacing parts. You might like it just the way it is.

Try it before you panic about them being non adjustable. Mine was spot on for normal match shooting distances for both 115 and 124 gn rounds. Or at least the difference is masked by the "human factor" of the guy holding the gun.... :D

They may not be including the mag loader. But don't worry about it. I've tried mine and it's pretty much a waste of plastic unless you've got issues with your fingers that make it difficult to load by hand. But if you don't want to load by hand then invest in a Maglula Uplula loader. It's far, far better that the waste of raw material that came with my Shadow.
