CZ Shadows and Springs

6 coils cut off? My god- I cut off 2 coils from my 13# spring, use an extended firing pin, and I still get the occasional light strike. Not a problem for me- I don't do IPSC, just slow fire target shooting.
Fwiw, my DA is 5.25#, and SA is 2.75#. I can't imagine what yours must be like- isn't the trigger spongy? What are your pull weights like?

Trigger is not spongy, you can feel a little SA creep, double action feels like a toy and is very smooth. I have not measured as it is my PPC gun. All ammo is hand primed to insure the primers are fully seated. I took another spring and cut it even further and used the lighter firing pin spring but it made the single action dangerous and I experienced the firing pin hanging up and bouncing so I took the lighter spring out and went back to 13lb less 6 coils. I have never had a round not go off but I am sure this is do to hand priming.

After breaking several parts I keep a few spare. Most common problems *slide stop*, trigger return spring, recoil spring, extractor, extractor spring, hammer return spring and fibre optic rod, lighter main spring (makes huge difference for first DA shot).

Is there a recommended time you would replace these items based on usage (springs etc) or just when problems arose?

I have the 13# main with extended firing pin and it shoots everything. I only get some light strikes on .22s when I have the kadet on it. I tried the 11# and 14# recoil springs but it wasn't chambering rounds all the way reliably so I run the factory 16# recoil. The only thing that ever broke was the extractor. Keep a spare.

If you compete - should be ready to change springs every 5000 rounds, slider stop - 10K rounds. But it may not be practical to change all possible parts up-front, so lots of people have spare gun going to major matches.
Watch you springs every 5000, replace recoil if it's too short. If it become too compressed, you start beating up frame. I noticed that my firing pin spring was broken at 10000 cleanup, but gun was still shooting. If you start getting light strikes - replace hammer spring.
For plinking - just wait while any part breaks (except recoil spring), and replace it at this point.
