My quest for a used HK USP in .40 cal has not gone well. So I have been re-thinking my search. I have no experience with either CZ or Sig handguns. I am an old school 1911 shooter however I hear good things about them both. So, if you were looking for a CZ or a Sig in .40 cal, had big hands, thought you might try IDPA or shoot production in IPSC, appreciate accurate, reliable handguns that saw a lot of use (never be a safe queen) what would your choice be? Would really like to hear from shooters with in depth experience with either make.

Thanks.

if you're already accustomed with full metal 1911 frames, I'll recommend the SIG P226 stainless, regular ST if you're lucky to find one in EE or the Elite models with SRT and nite sights.

I own both, love both
I like the SIG trigger better, but this is personal

Try to handle both if you can, before buying

At the end of the day, both are excellent and have whatever you need to do IPSC / IDPA

You won't go wrong with any of them

i'm a 1911 guy c/w big hands 9,40, 45. the cz is THE gun for prod/odpl. mine's a shadow , stock out of the box , it seems to like any ammo incl lead never had a ftf/fte. way too heavy for cc but who cares.

if you typically run a 1911 with a high thumb forward grip on top of the safety (like me). then you may find yourself inadvertently actuating the slide release with a similar high grip on the sig p226.

however that is something that can be corrected with practice

personally i find transitioning from a 1911 to a cz a bit easier due to the way i grip my pistol

Do they make the Shadow in .40 cal? I can't seem to find one listed in that calibre.

I love my CZ75B. I have had zero issues with more than 3000 rounds through it. If you are a 1911 shooter you will like the safety operation as you can carry it 'cocked and locked'. It is an accurate pistol, I was really impressed with it when I actually shot it from a rest when I was trying different hand loads in it. I know of a couple of guys at my club who have bought CZ's partially based on my recommendation and they are completely satisfied with their purchase. Also, if it matters, you can get into a CZ for a few hundred dollars less than a SIG.

My experience with the Sig is limited so I can't really compare the two.

Good luck with your decision.

I have had a Sig P226R in 9mm for 4 years now & use it every week down the range probably put 7000+ rounds through it without any problems, it is very accurate & comes apart for cleaning in seconds. I would highly recommend one. I'm sure one in 40cal would be just as good.

I'm really happy with my CZ75B. I'm just past 1500 rounds downrange with it since November and have had zero malfunctions using 127 grain FMJ. If I do my part and concentrate I can make close to single hole groups at 10m.

I think that for the money, a CZ is going to get you more gun if you intend to ever compete. For the price of an entry level P226, you're looking at a CZ75 Tactical Sport. An SP-01 Shadow, which is in the $800 range, comes with a fiber optic front sight and bevelled mag well from the factory.

I mean personally, my next handgun is going to be an SP-01. I've put 100 rounds through a P226 and just don't see any reason to consider one. They're both accurate, reliable handguns, but the CZ is a lot cheaper.
