Had the privilage of shooting my friends CAD edition SP01 and it was just insane. The trigger smoothness, clean crisp break, tiny reset, and fibre optic sights had me in Nirvana.
My question is; is there any way to get that sort of customization on a Standard SP01 Tactical down the road if i so chose ? I just dont have a spare $2200 sitting around atm. Would the Shadow 2 be a better option ?

2200?! Are you looking in the EE?! =P

Shadowmates are going for ~1,850, Canadian Eds should be 200-300 less. I paid ~1,500 for mine a year ago.

Plenty of threads here about comparing them to regular Shadows and what upgrades they have; in the end it's really up to you.

$2200 and change with taxes in.
Interesting. Im imagining that the price increase was due to our ####ty dollar recently.

It was the Shadowmate Cad Ed. I did a search as you suggested and sm going through them now. Thanks for your help and input.

You would need to start with an SP-01 Shadow as a base if you'd like to build your own. The Tactical has a firing pin block which makes it more work to get a similar trigger. What you can't really replicate building your own is the barrel/slide/frame fit. The special editions are hand fitted at the factory and there's a pretty big difference. There's a chance you could luck into a very close fitting Shadow, and possibly for the average shooter it doesn't make any practical difference anyway. If a smooth trigger is your primary goal a regular Shadow can be made to rival/equal a Canadian or Orange in that respect for less money IMO..

I bought my Shadowmate around a year ago and I really have to do much better to shoot as well as it would allow me. Super nice reset. I replaced the three dots, though, with a single green and flat rear blades.

That said, my backup SP01 is totally fine. 1000s of rounds worked that trigger in very well.

Yes to answer your question. A good gunsmith should be able to give you the same crisp trigger.

I have an 85 Combat done up by the late Ken Soucie that has a crisper trigger and shorter reset than my 75 Shadowline. Not by much but there is a difference. CZ's are great guns. If I was just starting out I would get a slightly used Shadow/SP-01 Tactical and call it good. Out of the box they are great guns and for most the lighter crisp trigger and shorter reset will have little to no impact on how you score playing the games. For those who have talent and are accomplished shooters there is some benefit.

The regular Shadow is a very nice pistol. With some TLC on the trigger works it can be given a slightly faster reset and a slightly crisper trigger. I notice the difference in front of the TV set dry firing the gun but never when shooting a stage. If you have the money and want to spend it by all means go for it. If you don't you won't be short changed by buying the regular Shadow or even the 75B. If the latter just replace the hammer spring with a 13# Spring and go shoot.

Take Care

Bob

If you can't afford a canadian edition and can do minor fitment then I would suggest a cz75 sp01 shadow. Down the road change out your Springs, add a competition hammer and a short reset disconnect.
