Hi all,

The regular CZ SP01 shadow comes with a plastic guide rod. Any advantage to getting a stainless steel guide rod for it? Longevity, accuracy etc?

Thanks

Gilbert

None that I have seen....except that if you try to failure test your CZ you will need a steel rod to
prevent barrel heat from melting the guide rod ;).

I bought a s.s one, installed it, uninstalled it. Makes a good spare. I found a bunch of posts online claiming you should use it with a buffer, some say it's fine without a buffer, or as long as your recoil spring is matched properly. I gave up. The plastic works just fine for me.

I almost went that route then realized....there isnt any evidence for a benefit beyond it 'will probably last longer'...but at $1 for the stock plastic ones, I bet you can run a gun longer on the price of stock spares than for one new stainless unit...
Spend your money where it counts IMO, guide rod isnt near the top of the list.

When I last looked I couldn't find a recoil spring that fit on the plastic rod that was less than 15lb. I bought a stainless rod in order to use the lighter spring. No real gain otherwise.

Save your cash & stay with the plastic guide rod. If the spring seems not to fit, give it a little twist as you push it on the rod.

Get the stainless one, I've got gouged up plastic ones from extensive shooting. my stainless ones (the proper CZUB ones) with a shockbuff are much much better.

If you shoot as much as Slavex does, go for it. I'll bet Slavex pounds more rounds downrange in a week than most people shoot in a year.

Yes, the main reason the guide rods are plastic is because it's a bazillion times cheaper to produce and get decent performance out of the gun. Ok, maybe not a bazillion times, but a lot lot cheaper to produce.
