Cz sp01 shadow or glock 17

Wow! Those are quite different... You should try each to see what works for you. Personally, I have the Shadow and love it. You may not...

Would you like a 3 1/2# trigger (shadow) or a 6 1/2# trigger (glock) right out of the box?
Thats hammer fired vs striker fired. It would help if you could handle both & see how they fit .
I have both & prefer the CZ.

How big are your hands?

The double action trigger pull on the SP-01 is really long, unless you wear large + gloves then you’re going to find that difficult to reach. However, if you get a manual safety version (carried in condition 1) or if you only plan to shoot it single action only then that won’t be a problem.

The Glock also causes problems for small and medium handed shooters since the sharp grip corner radius tends to bite into the flat parts of your fingers. The SP-01 front strap is rounded so it’s much more comfortable, and the grip panels are very well shaped for comfort.

I would choose an SP-01 over the Glock, unless I had to carry one on my belt all day every day. You can super pimp out a Glock if you like that sort of thing, but options for the SP-01 are very good too.

Shadow. I have very small hands, you get used to the long(er) first pull in DA.

P.S. The Glock is a fine pistol but the Shadow's a cut above.

I have one of each and they each bring their own flavour to pistol shooting. If I had to get rid of one it would be the Glock. The decision is easy but the consequences would be rough as I like the Glock as well. The CZ would be the last pistol to go before I was left with my favourite 1911 in 9 mm. Welcome to the handgun world, it is as fun as you imagined!

I shot IPSC with a Glock 17 for years, I owned many Glock 34s and competed with them. I sold my Glock 34 MOS for a CZ SP01 and haven't looked back.

The Glock grip angle is weird for some. But it helps you lock your wrists. While both are good guns, test fit them both and see what one you shoot better.

FYI a CZ with thin grips, is smaller than a single stack 1911.

I'd carry my sp-01 shadows into battle any day of the week. Definitely need to compare the shadow to the 34 though. There are guys at the local club with 34's and optics that can shoot circles around me and my shadows. You cant buy skill... or so I have heard. For me I like a gun I can grip and shoot single handed with either my left or right hand. This is only important during a shtf scenario like you have to drive and shoot or one of your limbs isnt working.

Shadow is an excellent first handgun to learn and progress with! It’s what I started with and have zero regrets. I don’t have the Glock 17 but have a 19, also an excellent gun. Definitely recommend the shadow to learn the basics.
