CZ SP01 Shadow single round in mag-action wont close

While servicing my CZ shadow I normally test everything with a snap cap. For some reason one of the magazines has a problem where if a single "round" is inserted and the mag installed I cannot snap the slide and close the action. The other two mags work fine. I cant really see an issue with it, but nearest I can figure, the follower is sitting up slightly higher with the "round" inserted and the pistol "thinks" the mag is empty. If I wiggle the round around in the ejection port I can get it to work. I'm wondering if the top of the mag spread apart slightly somehow and is causing the follower to sit up too high. Can this be fixed? Is it as simple as squeezing the top of the mag slightly to allow the round to push the follower down a little more or is a new mag in order?

That is correct. If the slide is forward and I insert the magazine, I can rack the slide and chamber the snap cap. I tried 5 different snap caps with the same results. In the other two mags, no problem. This issue just surfaced. If the action is open and I have one snapcap in the magazine, and I rack the slide, it will not snap forward.

Since it's only the one magazine it should be fairly easy to spot some sort of difference between it and the rest.

With the slide and barrel off the frame check the different mags with one snap cap in place and see if that odd one has the cap seated at a slightly different height or angle. Adjust the lips of the magazine slightly if needed. If the lips don't hold the round in place properly the front of the follower might be up just a hair too high and lifting the slide lock prematurely.

Yup, they are pretty close relatives. Ours is unbelievably flexible, agile, and full of beans (no off switch). I run the hell out of her and she comes back for more. She's wearing me out. Certainly not a dog for the couch potato. I've never seen a more gentler soul and soft mouth, or a dog that could do an almost 4ft standing stationary jump.

If you've been using the mags for any sort of action shooting where you just let them fall to the ground sometimes the lips get beaten up and slightly bent and need tweaking to restore them.

If you don't shoot in that way then I'm not sure what would have made the mags go funny.

You also want to check the follower for easy and smooth movement. It may be that something got inside and is making the follower sticky and sit funny. The mags are not that hard to take apart and clean plus oil lightly inside and out. Use the same amount you would on a blued gun when just wiping it down with an oily rag to avoid rust. That's more than enough. Any more than that needlessly holds more dust and dirt.

Mags are also a good place to use a dry lube which has good rust resistance such as EEZOX. Watch it though. Not all dry lubes have rust resisting properties. The ones that leave just a layer of lubricating powder in particular are bad as they have no corrosion protection at all. Read the labels if you go looking for a dry lube for magazines.

If you find something specific let us know. It could help out the next person a lot.
