CZ SP01 Shadowline vs Shadow 2

Has anyone had a chance to compare these two pistols?

I'm about to purchase one or the other and right now both are about the same price. I've seen several reports that the ergonomics of the slide on the Shadow 2 make racking a bit tricky and the the Shadowline has some extras that might be worth having.

For the same money is one a better value than the other?

This will be my first (and only, at least for a while) centre fire handgun. I currently have a 1911 in .22 LR.

Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated!
 
Try one out first, they are great, however I need to find a slimmer set of grips as i can't quite get my finger positioned correctly! So make sure it fits your hand! There were some awesome deals on the shadow 1 around!
 
If you do the slingshot or even overhand slide manipulation, the S2 slide profile might seem trickier to get a grip on. If you use the front of the slide to operate it, the sloped shape fits into the wedge shape made by your thumb and index finger. Since I've started shooting IPSC, I've switched over to the front slide operation because it's easier to show the RO that the gun is cleared and I can reholster. I ended up getting the Shadow 2 and have no regrets.

You can't go wrong with either. You'll want to get a 13lb or lighter mainspring and possibly a lightened firing pin spring too in order to reduce that heavy DA pull.
 
You may want to consider the Shadowmate that is quite Superior to both the Shadow 2 and Shadowline ( according to my experiences ). I bought mine from Tenda recently. They were in big special. Don't know if they still have some.

Buy any CZ75 variant that you like the most. Unless you’re an absolute phenom, it will be a long time before any of them hold you back. I recently got an S2 as my first pistol. I’ve never had an issue racking the slide, and I’m a fairly novice shooter. My wife likes it more than her .22 - I’m now torn if I should shell out for another one or just get her a Shadow with thin grips
 
The real question is what type of shooting most catches your interest? Informally shooting, IPSC, IDPA, 3-Gun, PPC, Bullseye? Determine where you want to go and the rule books will dictate most of the rest.

The Shadow 2 is not IDPA legal. The Shadowline is both IPSC and IDPA legal. Both are allowable for 3-Gun. Both are allowable for certain PPC and Bullseye matches but won't be at all competitive. If it's informal buy whichever looks best to you.

If it were my money I'd find an 85 Combat in good condition on the used market ($600-700). Spend the extra $500 on more ammo and range time to practice, reloading equipment as you'll end up there eventually, or a pistol course to learn/hone skills and help determine what type of shooting you like.

Best of luck in your choice. As others have mentioned, there really isn't a wrong pick in the CZ line-up at the moment.

I recently shot a friend’s Shadow 2 and it was clear to me I needed to upgrade from my CZ 75B (shot IPSC for the past 3 years with it). I compared it to another friend’s Shadow Line, and I would say the Shadow 2 is slightly better. It was a little bit more comfortable and easier to reach the controls.

I would say it was a toss up between the two. Shadow 2 was slightly better but Shadow Line is IDPA legal. The only solution for me is to get both I guess!
 
Shadow 2 is great, made me sell many of the other 9 mms I had.

Haven't tried Shadowline, but from YT I read is not better than Shadow 2. So far my Shadow 2 only is at par with my ruger SR 1911 in my personal eyes ...

Great advice, you nailed it.

As others have said unless you are Grand Master material you are not likely going to out shoot any of the guns suggested, On a price point basis you start with the 75B, 85 Combat, Shadow 1, 75/SP-01 Shadowline, ......Canadian Edition. Unless you are only going to shoot IPSC I would not get the Shadow2. Works in Production Division but to heavy for IDPA. The only decision you have now to make is how much do you want to spend. From my experience you don't get much more self improvement by spending more money on the small perceived improvements each model brings for the extra money you spend. There is the ego thing though.....

The Shadow and Shadowline fit quite differently from the Shadow 2. I'd pick the one that fits best. I have pre-B CZ75, Shadows and Shadowlines and the Shadow 2 was a no-brainer next gun until I held it.

As mentioned there isn't a lot of noticeable difference shooting the different Shadows without considerable experience.

I also wholeheartedly encourage you to embrace that. If you've got the money and really want a specific gun just get it, skill be damned. I am no grand master but still enjoy nice guns that I cant fully exploit. In this country handgun shooting is purely for enjoyment after all, so do what makes you happiest.
