Well I wasn't going to buy another HG so soon but I got the bug. Bought a CZ75 Shadow at Wolverine. Basic gun $899, not high end one. Been into the 1911s hard but decided I would go this route. Don't really like 9mm all that much but I am light on 9mm artillery so this is it! Any smart advice is welcome. Not going to be in any competition with this gun.

Have a few thousand rds through mine no firing problems and I only cleaned it twice but the red insert on my front site is now loose and will probably go missing shortly.

I've put about 12000 rounds through mine in the last couple years. The only hiccup was at round number 10,246 (iirc), the slide-stop broke. Actually it probably broke on round 10,244 because I noticed after that shot the slide-stop was sticking out ever so slightly. I pushed it back in, took another shot, had it push out about an eighth of an inch again, was dumb enough to push it in again, rack it a few times (empty), seemed fine so I took another shot and it did the same thing. I then decided to field-strip it and realized the slide-stop had broken right in the middle of the "pin" part of it. Lucky for me there was no damage done from firing a round or two with that broken slide-stop, to either the gun or myself!

Apparently it's the weak link in the CZ75 chain. From a bit of internet scouring it seems it usually happens between 7500-15000 rounds. Mine broke right in the middle of that, and the ammo used was almost all factory American Eagle 115gr and 124gr, as I wasn't reloading pistol at that point.

Fun gun. It's my first. I've changed a few things. Easy to work on.

I really like the competition hammer on this gun. The trigger feels way more crisp. Easy DIY job.

The slide stop, springs are considered consumable items on the pistol. Preventative maintenance would have you replace these every 5-10k rounds.

Best advice I have is to swap out the stock 18lb mainspring for a 13lb spring.

It will greatly improve the already good stock trigger.

If you're feeling you want an even lighter trigger pull, cut one coil from that 13# spring. If that isn't enough, cut another coil, put in an extended firing pin.

But at the least, swap the 18 for a 13.

Custom grips can be found too.

I'd agree with Steve on the 13lb mainspring. Swap out the stock recoil spring for a 13# recoil spring if you're shooting hotter factory ammo or 11# if you're shooting milder reloads. A Shadow 2 or Pre-B disco if you want to shorten the reset. Other than that, she's good to go.
