CZ Thumbhole 457 question

Buy a mixture of target ammo and find a lot number that your gun likes, then buy as much of that as you can find. CZ rifles are very accurate as a rule. SK has a variety that can work well and not break the bank.Eley,Lapua and RWS also have great ammo but costs much more. Best bang for the buck that’s cheap is CCI standard. Only our gun will tell you what works. Congrats on the new gun!!

Just purchased one and haven't got it set-up yet with a scope and such and was wondering what ammo are people using and are the groups tight ?
Start with SK Rifle Match works great in every CZ I’ve ever used.

SK Magazine works good. SK Long rifle is the best I’ve found but might not be worth the extra cost.

Eley club worked well.

Most decent ammo’s will shoot fantastic groups but seems like SK is better in CZs I’ve used.

Even S&B Canadian Match which is dirt cheap is pretty decent if your rifle is dialed in.

I've found CCI-SV to be OK if you're just shooting cans and stuff OR practising your 'form'. NOT for 'extreme accuracy' since I've found a 'noticeable' amount of Flyers per magazine - almost every 'group of 5' had a flyer. My 455 and 457-VMTR both do quite well with SK-RM. And most CZs do better with SK/Lapua ammo, as do my 'other' 22s.

A lot of rimfire rifles like CCI Blazers and American Eagle 38 grain hollow points by Federal (AE22). Several friends use them in their CZ rimfires with amazing accuracy.

One has to buy at least ten different brands of rimfire ammo and see which one works for their particular rifle.

Rimfire rifles can be finicky with ammo. In saying that, once you find a brand and lot number that works, buy 10,000 rounds or more. Ammunition cost is only going to increase with the Trudeau/Carney tariff program currently in place........:(

When testing ammo shoot the entire box. 5 groups of ten or ten of five. If your trying any Lapua or SK variants then shoot those brands before switching because the lube for both SK and Lapua is the same synthetic type. Other manufacturers use different lubes which can be wax, tallow or a mixture of ingredients. Youll notice when swithching things will tighten up after the barrel becomes seasoned with that lube.

I clean a bit between brands when testing, just 1-wet and 1-dry parch to remove debris and maybe brush the chamber just to reduce Carbon. Yes, the first 5-10 usually aren't as accurate, too. I do 5-s so I don't punch ragged holes, and make notes between shots. This Summer I plan to test the "Humidity Theory" with a Vinyl hose into the chamber, to see if there's a noticeable diff with or w/o. Esp if I have to stop to load a mag or two.

Guns are like fingerprints. They are all unique and exhibit their own characteristics. Have you ever noticed when members post targets testing ammo and they shoot five groups of five with different ammo types how the fourth and fifth targets are the smallest groups. Only the gun can tell how many rounds, it becomes evident with the group size. Staying with the same lube does help reduce the number required! In your gun it may be ten but to generalize that’s all rimfires would be misleading! You do you Rocky

I've found if I bring SK Rifle Match and CCI Standard Velocity I'm bound to get the results I'm after with almost any 22 I've tried. Unless there are gophers in the crosshairs.

Then, it's whatever fast hollow point can hit a gopher center mass out to about 75 yards if I do my part. I'm very complicated. lol

As a rule, yes-take the time to do some load testing. Try as many types as you can and let the gun show you it's preferences. I should add, during that process I'm most interested in what the gun will do with ammo I'm prepared to buy a lot of. Sure, I'm curious what it'll do with $30/50 stuff but not if I never plan on running that in volume. I'll also never be inclined to run bulk ammo through a good bolt action. That stuff has it's place too, but (to me) there are guns better suited to it than a nice CZ.

Mine is so far showing promise with SK Standard+ and RWS Rifle Match. Does OK with CCI SV. Did not like ELEY contact, sport or club. Really shot ELEY Tenex well but that’s outa my budget for buying bulk.
