CZ Trail vs BCL MRX Bison

What kind of accuracy are you seeing with the trail? Biggest thing putting me off is that it's almost impossible to find someone post decent info on bulk 223/5.56. I got lots of 55gr 223, but I've only read that the twist rate isnt ideal and the patterns are huge, but some folks are getting the 1.5-2MOA with it. A little annoying lol

My trail is the 7.62 x39. With the Chinese surplus it was about 2 moa which is great considering the ammo Barnaul was a little tighter which was great considering the Ammo. It did not function well with geco. I have yet to try anything else. So for what it is a handy little rifle its quite accurate.

Recently saw a guy at the range with a BCL, well, actually saw him about a half dozen times over a two week period.

Every time I saw him he told me how much more polishing he'd done on the chamber with emery cloth, and hand-loading low-pressure rounds to try and get it to extract.

Eventually he went from hitting the bolt handle with a mallet and using a rod to beat the empty out to being able to actually shoot it as intended. So, I guess he ended up with a functional rifle at the end of it.

I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole and someone else's money.
Are you sure that wasn't the MRA Renegade he had extraction issues with?

I have 2 x BCL Bison and they run flawlessly, I also have an MRA Renegade that is now a very pricey paper weight as it won't extract.

I’m looking to get a tactical bolt action .223 for my collection, and have come down to either a CZ Trail 600 or a BCL MRX Bison scout. I’m having a hard time finding any reviews for either rifle that aren’t from 2 years ago. It seems the main problem with the CZ Trail is the accuracy due to a non free-floated barrel, plastic chassis, and wobbly stock. Meanwhile the MRX Bison seems to have had firing pin/extractor issues in early production that were supposedly fixed after the 3000+ serial #s but I can’t find any recent feedback on it other than people saying “don’t buy BCL”. I did have a chance to hold the MRX Bison in store and it felt well made and the bolt was relatively smooth. Both rifles seem to be equally good/bad and I just can’t decide which one to get. I’d appreciate some feedback from shooters of either rifle especially if you’ve had both and help me decide on which one to get.
Well, considering the stat of our gun confiscation & Colt Canada's(CZ) involvement I would jump on the opportunity to support Canadian. I personally own 2 BCL Bison's and really enjoy them. Warranty is amazing, I think mine was 3 days to receive updated firing pin parts. You can't beat their service. Both mine shoot 1-1.5moa consistently at 100yrds.

The firing pin issue was on the earlier models, all the later ones are fine. And.... if you happen to purchase a used one from someone (like I did) that had that issue, they will still ship you the replacement parts, no questions asked.

While I'm not sure I'd support CZ in the current climate until it is either confirmed or refuted about potential involvement in events we're all aware of; there are a few things to be said about the trail series.

As far as the cost compared to other things on the market, you're getting very good value for the money. It is well above the quality, functionality, and reliability of the BCL or most other cheaper compacts. You still get a solid 600 series platform with a cold hammer forged barrel and crisp trigger.

Having handled the BCL when it was released I was not even remotely impressed unfortunately. Too many corners cut just to make it close to competitive price wise. While I would like to support Canadian made products, the reality is pricing is almost always inflated 5-10 times what an equivalent firearm would cost in the US. I have paid that premium a couple times for cope guns but when there are other alternatives in the same category it's not something I feel is worthwhile personally.

I picked up a CZ 600 Trail in 7.62x39 the day they were finally available in Canada. Yes, the accuracy sucked, around 2-3 MOA depending on ammunition choice. The issue is entirely related to play in the stock however. I designed and built a buffer tube adapter to solve this. I am now running a Magpul PRS Lite stock and it is easily doing sub MOA with decent factory ammo. I don't like the loss of compactness, but I knew this would be necessary when I bought it as I HATE wobbly stocks.

It really is an extremely capable rifle that's crippled by a poorly designed stock system. If you only want a compact rifle capable of minute of deer, then it's fine as is.

Picture below of the prototype adapter before pinning and painting etc. I haven't taken a picture of the complete rifle yet unfortunately.

What ammo are you using to get 1-1.5 moa ??
Mine does not seem to like the generic 55gr stuff.

In my 300BLK I handload Barnes110gr TAC-TX.

In my 5.56 I'm using handloaded 55gr V-Max

I took a chance on a Bison when they came out a few years ago even though there were many negatives about Black creek products. After they fixed the extraction issue its been a blast.
All my AR mags work flawlessly but their 20rnd MRX mags work/fit the best. I recently swapped in a Bushnell AR Optics scope and finally sighted it in and happy with the combo. After the Range trip I removed the upper rail/hand guard to wipe down the barrel. I kinda like the Look so might keep it off.
My Bison is just a Range plinker that I shoot when .22lr gets a bit boring......
