I am thinking about upgrading from my CZ85 to a Shadow.

I have shot the shadow a could of times and drooled over one far too much. I really like the heavy front end and overall feel.

Before I go trade in the 85, is there anything else in 9mm that i should look into?

Thanks

Keep your 85 if you plan on shooting IDPA (if it's 85 Combat) and if you can afford to keep it.
Shadow is a great gun for IPSC or USPSA Prod div thou!!
If not the Shadow, Tanfoglio or 1911 are there to look at.

Replace the hammer with a competition hammer and add a FO front sight if possible on the Pre B and will have the Shadow without the weight. If you can't upgrade the older PRe B, sell it and buy another 85 Combat. Add competition hammer, FP front sight and 13# mainspring and you have just a good a gun as a Shadow, again without the weight of the Shadow.

it would be cheaper to mod your 85 up to competition spec using CZ components from Ghost Products. Even to mounting i CZ sourced fiber sight from a Shadow. The only disadvantage in the end would be the lighter front end resulting in more kick. Not much more though.

thanks, i do like that weight up front however

In my experience there is no comparison. I had 2 CZ 85 Combats and I sold them both. In no way did they compare to the Shadow. The way the grip is cut and the tac rail give the Shadow a very different feel and a big advantage when you are throwing a lot of lead in a hurry.

If you want to shoot IPSC sell the 85 and buy a Shadow from BlueLine for 799.

If you plan to go with IDPA you are probably better off with what you have...:)

John's 85 Combat rests in my safe. John with the competition hammer the trigger on my Shadow and the 85 Conbat are identical now. The Shadow does have the weight up front and is heavier whiich does soak up the recoil somewhat.

To the OP if you buy the Shadow and want to shoot both sports the Shadow can be made to make the IDPA weight limit easily by changing the grips and replacing the steel mag brake with a CZ Aluminum brake.
