CZ v T1X v...

Input at this point is for anyone else shopping :)

Based on looks alone, the CZ will always win. Supposed to be far easier to replace the barrels (CZ over Tikka) but that too is something I've never felt the need or desire to do. I've had 3-4 CZ452s over the years, only have one now. I picked-up a 457 Scout and put it into a 457 American stock=that's a fun gun I'm looking forward to some load testing with! (after the Yo Dave trigger, and after the snow)

Based on my experiences with these, and with the Tikka T1x (and a number of long-gone Savage rifles) ...if I suddenly had to start over and pick only 1 -$1000 .22LR bolt action, that would be an easy choice. Tikka T1x MTR with the 20" barrel.
 
I had them both, kept the CZ 457 Varmint and sold the Tikka. CZ looked like a real gun, felt like a real gun, real nice fully adjustable trigger and shot great. Tikka looked and felt like a Mattel toy gun, never shot as good as the CZ and trigger was not as good.

If you think a Tikka feels like a toy, I have to wonder how you'd describe a Savage/Marlin/Rossi etc. :) lol

Kidding aside, when I was closing in on a T1x, asking price was about $725. I held a number of them in various gun shops and simply walked away from them over and over again. Couldn't reconcile what I was holding with the asking price (to be honest). More time behind Tikka centerfires forced me to look closer at the T1x. Felt like a bit of a risk buying one in spite of that, but it's turned-out to be an excellent rifle. Only upgrade was a YoDave spring.

I really like the 457 too, just don't have the same amount of time behind it yet. Good trigger/nice action and beautifully finished. Still prefer the Tikka and in my opinion, the trigger is superior to that of the 457. Nobody I know chooses a gun based on how easy it is to install one of these springs of course...but if you did, you'd pick the T1x for sure. Same type of trigger group as the centerfires, and equally easy to work on.
 
I agree, I just love shooting in general. Have some Tikka T3s and they are all great performers. T3 Varmint in .204 is insanely accurate right out of the box, bone stock just adjusted the trigger as low as it would go and voila. One of the most consistently accurate rifles I have ever owned. Tried the Tikka .22 because felt it would be like the T3s but it just didn`t feel right somehow. On the flip side I also have a CZ 527 and I would never consider trading my T3 for a 527. With regard to mags, only problem I ever had was with the Ruger American metal mags, absolute junk (actually the whole gun was junK), thought I`d use it as a truck beater but it never would feed properly even after trying 3 different mags. Pretty much gave it away just to get rid of it.These days, Sako, Tikka, CZ and Rems are all I shoot.
 
the short bolt throw of the tikka, and easy to adjust trigger are definitely bonus points. The polymer stock is actually well made and 25-30% glass filled.

CZ457 has a 60 degree bolt and an excellent fully adjustable trigger so there is nothing to be gained or lost there. I found the action incredibly well machined and slick and love the feel and balance of the 20 inch varmint barrel. I am a very big fan of the T3 series but still preferred the Cz when it came to the .22.
 
I may be wrong but the t1 feels like 45* or something, it's very short and smooth. Both have a 20" barrel. Does the CZ go down to 1.5# out of the box? My buddy bought a trigger spring but was going to require pushing out pins and re-peening them in order to install.

I have four 457s all unmodified. The highest pull weight is the Canadian at 14oz, LRP and Premium at 12oz, and Pro Varmint at 11oz. It took some tweaking but I was able to do this without changing any springs and they all pass a pretty aggressive bump test and do not slamfire. So in my experience and four examples 1.5# should be very easy to achieve without any modification.

Any particular model of the MK2? I'm looking at picking up an FV to replace my aging (but still accurate) Model 4C.
 
T1x takes a bunch of crap because of the magazine. If it's not for you, it's not for you. However the accuracy I got out of mine stock from factory was insanely impressive so I bought a 2nd. Same level of accuracy in the second one. Wouldn't trade my T1x's for anything.
 
Had a T1x and the accuracy, even in a Boyds Pro Varmint was, Shyte.

Various CZ's since then and all have shoot better, lowest end of those is a Synthetic that easily outshoots the Tikka I had.

You want a heavy barrel model, FV or FV-SR, I've had 2x Mark2 FV-SR's that shot pretty well with Center-X and SK match (0.5-0.75" 10 shot 50m groups off the bench, and would easily hit the 300m gong). Before they increased the dollar value for the 'production class' in PRS rifle matches Savage mark2 was pretty well the only option to compete. You have to remember, that ammo is the key factor, a brick of real high end ammo will cost as much as the base rifle. LOL. I can reload for my .223 for cheaper then my rimfire ammo sometimes.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. And yea, I hear you on the ammo costs. My ancient Savage can be pretty accurate (almost always under 3/4" at 50 yards), but only if I feed it the right box of SK stuff. I'm mostly interested in having something modern for my regular shooter.
 
Just a step up (or sideways) I'd suggest looking at the Sav B22-FV (or FV-SR). A few more bucks than the MKII, rotary mag instead of stick hanging down. With mine I can get ca 0.5" @ 50 and ca 1.5 or less at 100. However, I Don't recommend the A22 as it has a funky semi-action that I didn't like and couldn't get under 2# pull.
