CZ vs Ruger which Would You Choose?

Thanks for the input. That is exactly why I did not condemn the Rugers out of hand, but suggested he check with other Ruger owners. In the post after yours, Bwana Dave seems to have had the same experience I did. Now I am the first to admit that I did not do a ton of load development for any of the Ruger rifles I owned, and the only CZ I can remember shooting is my son`s .22.

For context, I have owned, loaded for and shot more than 100 Ruger centerfire rifles... and about two dozen CZ centerfire rifles. All things considered, including build quality, fit & finish, accuracy and feel, when it came to downsizing, I went with Ruger over CZ... again... I like and recommend CZ rifles... but for me, side by side, Ruger wins.

I debated .17 Hornet or .22 Hornet. From what I have read the .17 is more accurate out of the box with factory ammo. My only concern is if the cartridge is popular enough to stick around ( factory ammo wise)?

After going through this thread, the CZ is the front runner by a wide margin.

I hate to say this, but my experience with Ruger is not stellar... CZ limited... so I'll keep my mouth shut :)

I think there's a better chance of the .17 Hornet sticking around than the .17 wsm. At least the Hornet is reloadable, and from my understanding brass can be made from .22 Hornet.

I decided last month I needed to replace the Remington VTR 22-250 I had sold off last year because I just never liked it, with a new 22-250. This time I picked a rifle that actually feels like a rifle and love it.
Ruger M77 22-250 Green Laminate SS, Hawkeye Predator 24"

It should be mentioned that the 77/17 has a different recoil lug arrangement than the 77 chambered for the larger cartridges. It's my opinion that the recoil lug set up used on the 77/17 is a weak design that may be responsible for the accuracy issues that myself and many other 77/17 owners experienced.

My choice is CZ, I have both the Varmint and American in .17 hornet, as well as a 204, and a 221 on order in the 527 action,
I have had a few rugers over the years, sadly, accuracy has not been great, on most of them, But I do like my ruger #1 300 H&H a great deal,

Do you prefer one over the other, Varmint or American?

Do you prefer one over the other, Varmint or American?

Yes, but it is very dependent on the circumstance's of use, and before I answer, I would like to say, I also have a 17 fireball on a sako, because of this rifle, preference is different from just between the two hornets, both my varmint and the fireball, way the same weight, so I am keeping the American and selling the varmint.
So if I was doing more shooting from a fixed position, I would take the Varmint, and for a carry, or walking rifle the American every time, quite a bit lighter and bit shorter.

Bumping up an old thread ;) I ended up with getting a Ruger 77/22 Hornet walnut blued sporter from another CGNer a while ago. And because you can never have too many, and for something different, I was also considering a Winchester 1885 in 17 wsm. A friend got one and it shoots nicely. Downsides; the price was a bit of a deterrent, limited availability, and it is rimfire. I did find one I could have imported, but was on the fence about it. That got me back to thinking about the 17 Hornet.

So I happened to drop into a shop last night looking for some premium .22 target ammo, and what do they have? A Ruger 77/17 Stainless in the Green Mountain laminate on sale for a very good price. So, I'll buck the trend and hope this one shoots well.
