CZ VZ58, Is it worth the Extra money, why not SKS

I'm with Scarecrow with this one.
The VZ58 is an assault rifle, reliable, easy to clean and not too bad on accuracy either.
The SKS is a carbine. Never heard of one ever wearing out.

Both will hit a man sized target at 350m in the right hands.
If you want an AK, go for a VZ cuz you'll never get an AK.

I doubt I could wear out either unless I purposely shot nothing but corrosive in them and didn't clean them at all and left them out in the rain all the time and then rolled over them with a halftrack or something

As for parts breakage, even AKs sometimes break. Manufacturing defects and and/or user error is generally to blame on VZ, AK and SKS type guns.

the answer is yes, very much worth it at 2005 prices HAHAHAHA

At current prices, I am not sure that I would have bought a CZ or a VZ... At current rates, ARs become more attractive, at least for me. But then, ARs are restricted only and for many this is a deal breaker, unfortunately...

The SKS is exremely fun to shoot. Accurate enough if you are like me and just like to shoot steel at 100m or whatever. The CZ/VZ are very well built clever designed firearms. Ive had 3 sks and a CZ 858 and now a VZ 58. No reason not to have an SKS in your collection @ $250 +/-but the VZ58 is just a step above in terms of feel. If you just want to have something in 7.62x39 the sks will more than satisfy. But for those who have the extra dough and want something nicer (imho) the cz858 or vz58 will not dissappoint either. Even my wife who doesnt care much for firearms loved shooting mine. Both deserve a spot in your safe.

It's a necro thread but it's interesting hearing/reading thoughts people had 12 years ago. they're very apples and oranges.

Only in the design of the firearm to a limited point. They both utilize the same cartridge with the same legal magazine limits and on target results.

One LOOKS LIKE an AK to the uninitiated or close enough to be acceptable and of course there is the pistol grip and removable magazine. Some like the balance better and even claim better performance. IMHO it's all in the eyes of the beholder. One doesn't seem to have much advantage IMHO other than the Vz58 fits the modern description of an assault rifle. Depending on the time the description is coined will fit each rifle appropriately.

I was 14 when this thread began and probably didn't know what a Vz.58 was. I knew what an SKS was because of Battlefield: Vietnam.

It's funny how times change.

The VZ is fun and in your face. SKSs are minute of barn.

I have to disagree with the "minutes of barn." Many years ago, I bought a sorry looking Russian SKS and my hunting partner and I took it to the range along with some rifles whose reloads we ere testing. The silhouette range had some targets still set up, including the big rams at 500 yards. Just for the heck of it, we turned the SKS loose on one of the rams, and were really surprised as the "clang" that followed. We fired about 20 rounds at those rams, and hit 12 times, using Norinco ball ammo. We were shooting off a bench.

At that point, I decided that I would definitely be unhealthy for anyone to be within 500 yards of the business end of a SKS.
