CZ452 vs Ruger 77/22....?

Although it's an HMR, I love my 452 varmint. Feels heavy enough, shoots well, looks good, mags work good, even the plastic 10 rounders are nice. I can't ever sell it.

I should say that there probably are some pretty decent shooting ruger 77 rimfires out there. One thing I liked a lot about mine was it felt amazing to shoulder it and shoot it. sorry for dissing it that much. Mine was simply not a keeper is all.

Have been shooting various 22 lr rifles for over 50 years. Up until about 5 years ago the Ruger 77-22 was my favourite.
I had been reading the very positive CZ reviews for years. Decided to try a 452 Varmint in 22 lr because I liked the weight being close to that of my center fire rifles.
Now, I like that 452 so much that it is the only 22 I shoot. The "backward" safety mentioned above is bothersome though. Almost all my 22 shooting is on range trips with my centerfires, so the backwards issue is not really such a big deal.

I have had dozens of both, I call "bull" on CZ's being more accurate, two of my most accurate LR's were 77's... don't get me wrong, I really like them both and will always own a couple of each... but if I "had" to choose only one, it would be the 77... the magazine tips the scale heavily in its favour.

If you aren't going to spend around $1000 you aren't going to get a 77/22 any time soon.... they have been discontinued and folks are rushing out to snap up what is left.......

I own three 77 platform rifles, 22L.R. 22Mag and 22 Hornet. Reworked the triggers on all of them and did a bedding job on the Hornet. One day I would like to add a 77-44Mag to the line up. I also have an older Brno model #5 which is an early 1960's production and a real pleasure to hold and shoot. I wouldn't want to give up either brand, they both have features that can be praised or disliked depending on who you ask. No matter which way you go you wont regret the investment. D.H.

I own 2 77's in .22lr
And 4 452's...two of them Lux's.
Love both to bits.
If you had to take all of them away....leave me a 452 Lux.

I absolutely love the tangent sights.....greatest thing ever made.

I'll have to handle both the Ruger and the CZ to make a final decision. I'm in no hurry. Can always rely on either my mossberg 151 m-c, my 10/22...the Winchester 69 is still mine!
Many thanks for your help.

The CZ's always seem to keep their appeal and will sell well even used..

I am a ruger fan myself, but the CZ is a good rifle as well.......

One thing people tend to not think about is the fact that you likely launch more bullets from a .22 than you do any other in your collection........ this tends to lead people towards cheap .22's that are readily available.......

A .22 is not unlike any other caliber in a rifle, just because it is rim fire.......... you will get what you pay for....
