Hey guys,

I've been shooting my CZ455 as a PR trainer for two years now. I decided recently to fully accurize the rifle, here's what I did and what I have a few questions on.

First thing I did was swap the original stock to a Boyd's tactical stock. The fit and finish are pretty good but the barrel channel was just not free floating enough so I measured the diameter of the barrel (7/8) and found a dowel at my local hardware store and sanded the channel out with some 120 grit to 180 grit sand paper until I was satisfied .

Next I epoxy bedded the action, its a straight forward process and I have another CNG thread regarding the how to, different gun but identical process. The action is real nice and snug now.

I replaced the original firing pin spring with a Yo Dave spring, with no issues. Here's my first question I purchased the Yo Dave trigger spring kit as well, I watched a few videos on YouTube and it seems to me its just a matter of tapping out one pin and replacing the spring. In the videos I watched the pin comes out relative easy, when I attempted it I used considerable more force and I still didn't get the pin to move much so I decided to leave it as is. Anyone out there have any experience with this?

I mounted a DIP 11mm to 20 mm conversion rail and mounted a Falcon Menace 5X22X50 on Burris Signature rings and finished it up with a 6-9 Harris bipod.

My final question is about your preferred torque specs? I have my action at 25lb wondering what others are running. I just finished the work last night and find myself with a few seconds to post something. I will take a few pics and post them this evening and will hit the range in a few days and report back.

I have probably put close to 10000 rounds thought this rifle in the passed two years, will be neat to see if I can eek a little more accuracy out of it.

Regards,

Pillar bedding helped mine and both showed best results at 40 inch pounds.
My YoDave Trigger kits have my Varmint and American just over one pound.
Reshaping the firing pin to move the impact to the inside of the rim showed positive results.

Thanks for the info, I've been looking online (Kinneys) for a few odds and ends to really finish this rifle off, what are your opinions on the following. I'm really attracted to the replacement trigger guard but for 150$ seems a redundant haha

Aluminum Mag Well Block 17$
Aluminum Mag Well 39$
Steel Extended Mag Catch 17$

Less than 80$ for the last three parts and to me will increase the longevity of this rifle. I've been using this rifle lots and plan to continue to do so and even plan on teaching my children on it when they get a little older, your thoughts?

Here's what you wanna read for guidance with your accurizing: h t t p://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1023105

With pillars, I torque the action screws to 30 in-lbs, you're pretty well at the limit without pillars. Why the Yo-Dave striker spring? As is, the 455 ignition system is designed to handle thicker rimmed magnum calibers, making it oversprung for .22 LR. I got a reduced power striker spring for my custom build. Look at re-shaping the striker tip as Horseman has suggested, along with polishing of the striker/bolt.

How is it shooting for you now? What do the groups look like?

As asked above, how is your rifle shooting with the modifications? How was it shooting before?

Some shooters report accuracy improvement by shimming the barrel with epoxy shims in the barrel channel. The shims can be made to be easily removed by using some of your Kiwi polish on the channel (and of course under the barrel so as not to stick to it), so that their placement can be changed when testing for accuracy.

I don't know that swapping the magazine well etc. will significantly improve the lifespan of a CZ that is used with some care, but some shooters do it to give them a sense of reassurance that they have taken advantage of what is available.

The rifle has been shooting well, I’ve been making single hole groups at 50m with CCI standard vel. I haven’t tested post bedding yet, by the weekend I’ll have a chance, and report back.

Im really hoping to see an improvement at 100m, maybe I get a inch and a half group with the odd flyer

I swaped the bolt spring to the YoDave to get a more consistent strike from the firing pin?

Aluminum Mag Well Block 17$
Aluminum Mag Well 39$
Steel Extended Mag Catch 17$

The extend mag release is only about a 1/4 inch longer but it does make everything a little easier.
As to the other two I will wait until they break but don't see either as improving accuracy.

I replaced the mag well and release on mine because they were the only plastic pieces on the rifle (mine is an HMR, so there's no mag well block). The extended release is the only part that makes any perceptible difference operation-wise, but if you're spending time and money getting the rifle dialed in just right and have the money to get rid of the janky plastic bits, I can't see any reason not to. The 11mm dovetail and plastic bits are cost saving measures. In a perfect world it would come with a picatinny rail machined into the receiver and no hidden plastic parts, or plastic magazines.

go check out 22 marksman challenge on you-tube the guys in Utah are using the CZ455 as a base profile, can't remember the guys name but he has a few videos on tuning and torque stock setup of the CZ455

Nothing much to gain if you're already consistently shooting one holers at 50m with run of the mill CCI Standard ammunition. Match ammo would shoot better but cost more.

Maybe look at getting into a purpose built match rifle with match ammunition.

I should add that I decided to go with the standard trigger and not to muck with the yodave kit I have... this CZ always shot good but now it shoots like a dream!!
