I think it would look out of proportion with a rifle stock. However that is what I may have to do. The stock is only warranted for one year, it has been 15 months fron the time of purchase.
Mine split quite badly but I had it repaired with glass bedding compound. Took a bit of work but has been holding up well. Seems to be quite a few 7.62 carbines that experience split stocks and I would suggest that anyone with one should have it glass reinforced. My .223 carbine seems to be fine but I will likely bed it too for peace of mind.

You can easily take 2" off the forend and sand it and Tru-Oil it... this matches the Boyds satin finsh perfectly. I did this for a few Ruger Compact and Frontier rifles with 16.5" barrels. The barreled action will be a drop in fit.
Thanks for all the replies. I am going to pillar bed the screws. Then drill the stock crossways and put a brass rod in where the recoil lug will sit. To replace the wood that is cracked. And then bed with likely jb weld, so that the recoil lug has full contact.
If this fails or seems like it may fail, I will get a boyds and cut it down.
