Whaddaya guys think about the CZ550? they look like nice rifles but ive never had the chance to fondle one. It could be the right thing to scratch my 458 win mag itch...muahaha.:p

I have owned two, both in .416 Rigby. It's a very good rifle especially for the money. There is not much else out there of comparable size for the really large cartridges. They have listed a .450 Rigby for some time, but I have never heard of anyone getting one or seen one listed for sale. Mine shot well, but that stock design was not great for a heavy recoiling rifle.

I was wondering how the stock would feel, Ive never shot a heavy calibre with a sloping comb like that. I wish they offered the american model with 20 in barrel and express sights in 458.

It's not the comb that's the problem, it's that damn stupid angle of the butt pad. I've got one in .375 that shoots great, but recoil drives the top of the butt pad (I think that's the "heel" of the stock) into my shoulder way too hard. It's not the only or first .375 that I've owned or shot, but it's definitely the nastiest.

I have a 550 Lux in 9.3x62,one of the most accurate rifles I own.Like the set trigger also, nice for those long shots or just shooting a group.

Were you getting the same effect standing.?

Slimbo,
I've got a 375 H&H and 416 Rigby. Recoil on the 375 is a piece of cake, the 416 isn't that bad. I shot 33 rounds the first time out, half off the bench. I can still one hand the rifle on the bench and no bruises.
Why not get a .458 Lott and shoot 458 Win mags out of it? That way you have more options for self abuse.:D

I never knew that was a possibility....I dont know anything about the 458 lott....cand you fire a 458 lott out of a 458 mag chamber? or just the other way around? interesting.

Slimbo,
The .458 Win chambers in the Lott just like using 2 3/4" shotshells in a 3" chamber. The case headspaces on the belt. The CZ magazine is full length even when the shorter Winchester case is used and some say that it will feed better with the Lott. The bolt stroke is the same either way, so you might as well use it. 2400 fps or close to it is within reach with 500s. 2300 might be more realistic though.
The Lott is sometimes called "What the .458 Win. wants to grow up and be":D Whether thats true or not might be subject to debate, but the Lott chamber can shoot both. I'll probably end up with one after I finish working my way up through the .416 Rigby stage. For the price of CZs 550s a guy can collect the whole set.:D
Here's an older article that tells a bit history. http://www.rifleshootermag.com/featured_rifles/buff_1124/

I've got a 550 American in .30-06. I've been extremely happy with it.

About 100 rounds down the pipe so far, and its shot sub-MOA with three of the five brands of factory ammo I've tried out. The worst group was 1.5"@100yrds. With the weight, straight stock design and 1" Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad the recoil is very light.

Thye bolt was a little rough to start with, but has smoothed out beautifully.

Excellent rifle - I'll be buying another in .375 H&H shortly.

I don't know about seeing through...but once you get one 550, you want more ;)...okay, you're that easy to see through :dancingbanana:

Well, just because I'm transparent doesn't mean it won't work.;) I'm hoping to see one of those "For sale, like new CZ .458 Lott, comes with 19 factory cartridges and one empty" ads. :dancingbanana: Might work.
