I was looking at a CZ75 and a CZ85 today, both were 9mm. what can you tell me about CZs? I was also looking at a Beretta. The CZs were cheaper and fit me better. Is the Beretta worth the extra money? I have never owned an auto, but would like to unless they are troublesome.

So many questions, where to begin.

CZ's are good firearms, they have a good reputation and are reliable. The biggest difference that comes to mind is that the CZ85 has an ambi safety on it which the CZ75 lacks.

I personally am not a big fan of Berettas (sorry Slavex) although recently I handled a few that I thought would be nice to try at the range. Others here feel different and will be glad to explain what they like about the Berettas.

There are many different guns out there and calibres, I would suggest you see if you can try a few that you like the feel of, because once you shoot them you will have a better idea as to if you wish to own it or not.

SemiAutos are not troublesome in most cases, the only time I find they can cause issues are if they are very very dirty and not being maintained or if your shooting poor quality reloads. Otherwise they should be reliable in most cases.

Good luck with your search and please ask as many questions as you like, the members of CGN tend to be some of the most knowledageble people about firearms I have ever met and they tend to be helpful and will try to answer anyones questions.

CZ's are one of my favorite handguns. I would however, recommend replacing the factory plastic guide rods and the factory recoil springs. You can find various suppliers over the internet for these items. Over all, these are great guns. Regarding Berettas, I have never been a fan.

I carried a CZ 75 in south africa for 2 years and would/did stake my life on there reliability. This is bar non my favorite handgun, In those two years I fired about 9000 rds and only had one jam(reloaded round head wasn't seated enough). My gun was a earlier model, with a rounded trigger guard and a spur hammer the newer ones have a firing pin safety and are called CZ 75B.If i were to buy another one i would look for a earlier one, I found the trigger pull to be better than the new ones.

I own 2 CZs and another on its way, 0 Berettas. Both CZs have well over 50000 rounds through them, never had ANY problems with either. The thing I do not like most about the Beretta is the fact that they have an aluminum alloy frame. Being in the repair business I see alot of different guns in the course of a day, I see more Berettas, Sigs and Rugers than any other makes. I know there are alot of CZs in service, but rarely see 1 in for any kind of repair

The CZs are fine pistols, if they fit your hand, get one.

There is no difference between the 75 and 85 other than the ambi controls - if you're right handed, they don't matter. If you are thinking about competitions down the road, for an extra $70-100 you can get the '85Combat' model, which has adj sights, extended mag release, trigger overtravel screw, etc - nice things for target shooting. I had 4 different CZs over the past 10 years, including 75, 75BD, and the 85Cs. All nice guys. I had some problems with feeding and jams, but I think those were mostly magazine issues.

Ohhh, don't get the single action model, go for the old reliable SA/DA ;-)

Thinking of selling my early CZ-75 (curved guard and spurred hammer). Maybe 1000 rounds through her. Love her but she's a not used as I'm not big on the lowley 9mm. One nic on the tip of the frame, nothing else and no way to take pics. $$$ guesstimate?

Hey guys I just went to Gobles today to buy ammo and set eyes on a CZ-75B, I handled it and couldn't help it before I knew it I signed my life away and she comes home in a couple of weeks. I dont think Ive ever felt a nicer trigger pull either than maybe a Walther P99. But either way what a beauty cant wait to take it too the range.

new member with my 2cents worth... I did a ton of research before I chose the CZ75B and I've never regretted my decision. Fit my hand well and I hear the trigger improves with break-in. BTW, pretty accurate at about 25 yards too.
