CZ75 IPSC model - sticking Mag issue

I took my first black badge course on the weekend and of course didn't realize how much even minor equipment malfunctions can really screw things up. I have 6 identical CZ mags and out of those only two would properly disengage from the gun after the release was pressed. The others simply popped out about half an inch and I had to pull them out manually. There seems to be quite a resistance fit inside the mag well. Does anyone have any past experience with this type of issue or how this could be corrected?

That's the hard part in establishing where. I've removed the grips and slide to give a better view and it looks like it could be one of two different spots. I'll try the oil thing tonight.

Yes they are all the factory CZ mags for the IPSC model. Thanks.

Most CZs have a leaf spring in the back of the mag well that bears against the magazine and keeps it from dropping free. This can be easily fixed by either taking it out and bending it flat or replacing it with the flat part designed to allow magazines to drop.

I'm surprised the IPSC model would be so configured.

You'll want to study the good ones and compare them to the sticky ones. In particular look for signs of a light scuff that indicates a rub point. If they are the same plastic based mags that I have look at where the plastic base meets the metal upper for signs of missalignment.

Also check both the sliders and stickers to see if they have the same play side to side and back to front when almost clicked in. You'll want to remove the release or at least hold it pressed down fully for this test. Any sign of differences will help point to where it's sticking. Remove the grips before you do this check and you'll be able to see where the rocking action is pivoting from which may also be the tight spot.

If you've got a set of calipers you can also check for any dimensional differences. If you don't have a set then this would be an excuse to buy one of the cheapie digital ones being sold by tool places such as KMS or Busy Bee.

It's the mag break or what somebody already called a leaf spring. It's the thing that separates the magazine from the main spring. Don't leave it out because it helps guide that magazines in. You can buy a replacement from Hobdell's site or bend (slightly) the factory one.

I noticed on mine that the grip screws were pressing it against the magazines. I used a file to take a very little bit of material off of it and then gave it a bit of a curve toward the back. There is no need to bend a kink into it or anything like that. Works like a charm now. Let me know if you need pictures.

Two of his mags slip out clean and he did say he has the IPSC special so I'm assuming that it already has the flat separator instead of the curved mag brake.

Yeah, it's gotta be that mag brake I think. If it's an IDPA model instead of an IPSC model, they would have the break in there to aid in magazine retention on tactical reloads as is required in IDPA (right?).

Interesting. CZ does not list a 75B IPSC Model or IDPA Model for that matter. The issue is likely the mag break as has already been mentioned.

Take Care

It's definitely not a spring as it doesn't even come close to touching the mag when it's in place - more like a guide, otherwise the mag would be scraping against the main spring on insertion. They don't seem to have any scuffs or scratches on them, but inside the frame there is some substantial marking (scratches) in just one area.

Since this is right on the frame itself it looks like the work needs to be done on the mags. A friend suggested I put them in a vise with a couple pieces of wood and gently bend them until they release correctly. I suppose I could try one, but this could get expensive if I bugger them up.

Can you take some pictures of the wear marks on the frame and mags?

OK, I must be brain dead but I cannot find a way to upload the photos. Maybe because of my newbie status?
