I was at the range today and after about 100 rounds the trigger on my Shadow stopped working in single or double action mode. I could pull the trigger but it would not release the hammer. I put it aside until I got home and could disassemble it and and first could see no reason why it would not fire. I noticed the magazine catch screw was a bit lose and after gently tightening it a bit I was able to get things back to normal and could fire in single or double action again. I was not able to find anything online about this so thought I would check to see if this was a common issue or if I should have it looked at by a gunsmith.

That screw holds both the mag catch spring and the trigger bar lifter Springs in place. If it's loose the trigger bar spring can drop, and not put pressure on the trigger bar. This then prevents the bar from making contact with your hammer resulting in the gun not working at all.
I've never heard of one coming loose on its own, they stake the hell out of them at the factory. So much so that most people have a very hard time taking them out. I can only assume you or someone else removed the screw previously and didn't tighten it down properly. You must also be careful when tightening it because you can twist the trigger bar spring into the mag well which will cause binding on the mags.

Gun was NIB when I got it from Reliable. I know I had never touched it before so I assume that it might not have been staked properly at the factory? I have put about 500 rounds through it since new.

Very strange, I'd just make sure it's tight now and the springs aren't twisting into the magwell and you should be good to go.
