Looking at getting into IDPA and I think I've narrowed my chioces down to either the CZ85 combat, or Tanfoglio combat sport. Any suggestions, pros, cons or opinions on either would be greatly appreciated

Both are excellent. The Tans have atrocious D/A pulls that can be helped by lighter mainsprings from Wolf. The Tans also have a slightly better grip IMHO but you may think differently. I have the model "L" Tanfoglio which has the 5" barrel.

Both are excellent. For me the decision would be based upon which gun gives you the most bang for your buck.

My vote is for the Tanfoglio because Freedom Ventures supports shooting sports and our BC Provincial tournament. Don't know who is the Canadian distributer for CZ. You can also buy different top ends for the Tanfoglio which may be of interest to you.

Actually, the Tanfos DA trigger can be made quite amazing with a little work.
Quite amazing indeed, right Sean?

I didn't say they can't be made better but out of the box they can be quite rough.

what you want to do,..is some minor detailing....which means smoothing some rough parts. Some people just dryfire,...but most dryfire and minor detail the rough parts.

I have a CZ 85 Combat which is very accurate and has a great trigger. I am quite pleased with it and use it for IPSC Production and IDPA Stock Service Pistol. So one vote for the CZ.

:D:D:D Absolutely Rob!!! :D:D:D

Both guns come from high quality manufacturers. Both guns should last you your life's shooting. The differences I can point out (being biased, of course) are:

Pro:
1. Tanfoglio took the original design and changed the back strap design to allow for a higher grip on the gun and more of a "beaver-tail".
2. The Combat Sport I have in stock comes with a real target Sight (LPA - similar to Bomar) melted into the slide.
3. The Combat Sport front strap has some extra lines cut in for grip enhancement.

May or may not help:
3. The Combat Sport comes with rubber grips.
4. The Combat Sport has a reversable mag release for either side. (Some lefties like)

Neg: (in comparison)
1. The Combat Sport's front sight is not changable.

"4. The Combat Sport has a reversable mag release for either side. (Some lefties like)"

Works great reversed for right hand shooters as well. In fact I am not sure why a lefty would reverse it. Using your trigger finger to hit the mag release is so much faster for me. I changed mine to the right side.

Sean who does decent trigger jobs on the Tans? Like to reduce my D/A trigger pull down to 5+lbs legally.;)

Thanks, I'll send my gun off as soon as the season winds down. Off to Washington State with the .40 cal top end on the gun. Shooting ESP with it.
