cz858: 500yd fun

Sorry if I was misleading, but this is a forum for shooting enthusiasts. In no way is it a graded piece of post secondary educational literature and I can admit I was excited to get the post up so proofreading wasn't exactly my first focus. I'm not saying I'm an exception to any rules, or anything else but unless you have legitimately tried to do this then the words you are typing aren't worth the "key strokes" made in ones basement. No worries retepnosflow, its just all in fun! Enjoy the sport, leave the naysaying and childish games to the politicians haha.

You have now been shunned by CGN's you will now live the rest of your life in darkness

No worries man enjoy your CZ :D

It's a great feeling to be able to stretch your gear out.

I took my M1 Garand out to 1000 meters on a 2'x 2.5' target with repeatable accuracy, it that was from a sandbag, but still using the GI Irons, not even the fancy pants National Match sights. I took photos and some video to prove it too, although that was several years back on my posting history now.

The thcwack of steel at long range is a great noise.

With my $99 Chinese SKS and Norinco silver box ammo, I used to shoot slightly larger than head sized rocks at 300 yards. This was with the standard iron sights set to 300m and I was sitting down on the ground. Hits were better than 50% and the misses were pretty close.

Maybe it was the dry, windless Sonoran desert conditions?

video or it did not happen.:D This is what you would have to achieve to make the shot, perhaps others could chime in that would have more experience than me.

The cz 858 has would have the mechanical accuracy to ring a big gong at 500 yards. However my experience with it is hits made at extended range are difficult to make. The sights are taken off of the restricted model and with the increased sight radius the angle changes slightly. So at extended range they are out of calibration with a 100 yard zero. You would need to rezero at a 500 yards.

As for shooting from an unsupported position. Possible. You have to have the trigger control to fire when during the few hundredths of a second that you achieve perfect sight alignment.

Also there is wind and at that range it is about 6 inches per 1 mile an hour. So if a shooter misses a wind call by 2 mph then he would miss by a foot.

So your shooting is possible for a well setup 858 and a skilled marksman, however there are alot of variables to overcome.

Approx 2.5 MOA target, hit about 12-15 percent. The rifle is probably a bit more capable than that, likely as good as 40-50 percent, properly sighted in at range, from a good rest. Still sounds like fun :)

Remember these rifles are designed for Minute of Capitalist Dog at 300y, anything better is gravy.
