good point
i see what your saying but it really comes down to supply and demand
Actually it comes down to bottom dollar.. If you have to outfit a 3rd world army do you get twice the gun, or "twice the guns"? Easy decision. They both work, they both use the same ammo, they both make people dead just the same. Except that if I get VZ I have 1/2 as many bullets flying... I buy AK's and the whole family can come play.
The logic that numbers mean quality is flawed. All things being equal, price mainly, I guarentee that every 3rd world sandal jockey would be running around with a SIG 550. But... since they don't have the money for the quality they take 10 guys with AK's to do the same job. Most of these places don't have a shortage of people to tote rifles, and you aren't going to waste good money on good guns and put them in the hands of peasants.
The AK fills a niche perfectly, but it isn't because of it's quality. It's because it's cheap to make, cheap to maintain and cheap to train. Luckly, the kicker is that it's also reliable in the sence that it always goes bang. It just has trouble going bang and hitting what you want it to. I've fired thousands of rounds through AK's and it's not even in the top 10 rifles I've ran. But hey.. if it's good enough for the movies and good enough for the peoples republic, it must be good.. right?
And don't get me wrong, there are some really nice AK's out there that address all the downsides of the platform. However those rifles aren't the same as the other 50million in the field. Like comparing a 1968 M16 to a 2010 Knights SR15.
Back to the topic at hand.. Stocks are coming.
