CZ858 and problems with LE

Hi CGN,
After looking over some opinions on this forum, I decided to purchase a Cz858 rifle. However, while scanning over some other topics, I noticed a poster mentioned that a LE officer was threating to confiscate his CZ858 at the gun range he was attending. (sorry, can't remember the topic or poster's name).

I know the 858 is non-restricted, but now I'm worried that some hot-headed police officer is going to give me a hard time or even take away my property just because it looks like a dangerous weapon.

Have any of you 858 owners ever had any trouble with LE officers? If so, how did you deal with it?

There's been a lot of speculation that it could happen, but afaik there have been mercifully few actual instances (if any).

Personally I've never had an issue, but I shoot on a private range, keep my paperwork handy and keep it under 120 on the way out and back. A little discretion goes a long way in terms of getting hassled. That's not to say you need to be paranoid either, I've driven to the range with it unlocked on the passenger seat.

Of course this is Calgary, ymmv.

A CZ858 accompanies this hot headed LEO everytime I go to the range. I have told a couple of my cop buddies about them and after they have seen mine with all my extra go fast doodads on it, they have both gone out and bought one. I take mine hunting too just with the hopes some liberal idiot will see me.

Booo yeah!

I take my CZ, my XCR, my M14 and soon my Tavor all out hunting.

Your train of thought leads to non-acceptance and persecution.

I just read the T97 thread.... so I'm upset.

Go to a shooting range near a large population centre and you'll see lots of them. Last time I was at the range two other people also had their CZ858 on the line. They are very well known and popular at the ranges. I don't think you'll have much trouble. When they first came out I could see it but not now.

They ought to be seen at every chance so that the anti's will know they are in for a fight every time they get the gestapo urge to ban/confiscate a gun!!!

I admit I'm a little nervous with mine. I never shoot at the range with any non restricted and hunt with most of mine so mine will be one of the more visible 858's in Ontario. :D

Me too...I took my 858 coyote hunting and met some people X-country skiing.

The look on their face was one of absolute shock...Almost felt like I was doing something wrong.
With a smile and a wave...I said "beautiful day"...while they did their best "deer in the headlights" look. :D

I usually double check I have the cert. for it...just in case a CO/PO doesn't know that they are non-rest. (or ERT/TRU show up)

Only time I've ever had a problem with the Police was with a bolt action enfield of all things.... they thought you could only have guns at a range. I showed him my certification, explained restricted vs non restricted, he called the CFC, and was not only amazed that I could shoot in the bush, but that I could own hand guns too!

So, go ahead and buy the 858, they're great guns. Know the law, carry your papers as proof, and be polite. Most of them are good guys who just don't know the rules.

Oh yah - and that cross country skiing post above reminded me - Took my 858 on a hike in the bush with friends when I had it. We came across a kindof weird looking group of people right at the trail head and one of them asked why I had an "AK". I told them it was because there were a lot of Grizzlies in the area. They looked even more scared after that:D

Priceless.... We've had a few cougar sightings in our area. I should be able to have a hell of a lot of fun with some of the local hikers and campers this summer..... :D

Yeah, you guys give LEO's too much credit.

I shoot with one and he constantly proves this point when new LEO's come to our club. Last week he handed a young guy one of his hi cap mags and asked the NEWB if he could fit 17 in his, cause his only held 16. The NEWB said...no no, they're only supposed to hold 16 and handed it back without so much as a blink.

Although the WHole Tavor thing freaks people out no matter where you go. :)

But NO WAY am I going hunting with 10rd pistol mags, thats just not a battle I want to get into in the middle of a forest. 5 rd mags only, and only cause I just dont want the hassle.

Thanks for the replies, guys! Helps me feel better about owning an 858.
Also, I apologize if I offended any LE officers with my "hot-headed" comment.
