I want to get a scope mount for my 858. I'm kinda tossed between the scout scope mount and the black tactical handgaurds. Does anyone have any one of these? Any experiences to share?

I just got a scout scope mount, not mounted yet. I plan to get an Eotech in January. Not much help, am I? I"ll post up the results.

get the scout scope mount - shim it and locktite it - steel on steel - accurate - all the others wobble - Infratek forend is tight but zero varies with tension of tension screw - temperature affects it also -

From some AK time, go with the handguard. The scope mount is kind of useless for a good shooter. 7.62x39+scope="siper shots" a dude with a .308, iron sights and a severe astigmatism should pull off. That handguard(I haven't played with yet) is way more versatile. For the following reasons:

1. You can mount an unlimited eye relief holo sight (EOtech512) and keep your Iron sights.

2. You can mount a vertical foregrip. Speeds target acquisition inside 50 yards, not so good beyond. VFG=CQB/Zday/tacticool

3. You can mount a light. For $150 you can have gun-rated, idiot proof light setup.

Bottom line is what do you want out of the gun. For all practical and legal purposes, both are dressup items. So go for the guard, dressup nicer.

The scout mount has worked great for me! It's been rock solid with over 2000 rounds. I loctited all the screws. One problem, though: you have to removed the rail piece if you want to access the piston for cleaning (you MUST do this if you are firing corrosive rounds).

However, look at the handguard mod i did (http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum...postcount=2682) or look at curtton's version. This allows you to remove the hg without taking off the scope, et voila, permanent mounting.

This is the only easy way of mounting an optic such that it doesn't interfere with the stripping/cleaning operation.

Not so.

Yes it does, because you still have to remove it to access the dust cover. It is not permanent, and the zero will move over time, although probably not by much if you are consistent when reattaching.
