So I'm tryin to remove that god dammit composite handguard to swap it to wood...

How you remove that f_c_i_g thing ?

I took a look at the Net and found nothing...

I about to lose my mind because of this handguard :mad: :redface:




 
helps if you put a long thin screwdriver shaft cross ways between the tabs that anchor the front end into the gas block. That will give you something to torque on to make the metal rotate in the beaver barf while holding the beaver barf portion. I found mine tends to turn much easier one direction than the other so try that! First time is the hardest, it gets "broken in".

Also ........ yes you need to pry one of the taps out of the way to get the rotation started. That metal tb piece on mine was only held in by one small spot weld that very quickly snapped so now my piece is loose and just sits in there. Doesn't seem to effect anything!
 
Finally I took a big breath and I was able to remove it without bending or breaking something. :dancingbanana:

Extra pair of hands could be helpful... Your best tool is patience and gloves to improve grip.

Boltonscouter has right, its easier in one direction !



Some parts will require light fitting and I must make a slot in the lower handguard for the cross-pin.

You may want to grind off the tabs on the top handguard shield just so they won't show thru the upper handguard. That's what I do.

Get a small round file to make the groove for the lower handguard roll pin.

I had the feeling we were about to see bfiles in there :p

If you remove the tabs, the top handguard could rotate, no ?
If you tell me where I can buy more of those parts, I will cut one and glue it inside to eliminate possible rotation.

I don't have a small round file but I will buy one tomorrow...
 
Same size file as the roll pin remember! !!!

Mine don't rotate and i have ground off all the tabs on ALL of my vz rifles. If it's a bit lose, i put a dab of crazy glue on the rounded off piece on the handguard, let it dry then put it back on the heat shield.

The set really popped with the sealer and oil on it. I only saw it in the raw wood form

Yes and to be honest its even better in person !

Here is the other maple set. Its tiger striped too but you almost can't see it because it still on bare wood.







when you aply water on wood, you can see the stripes...

But I would like to see a picture of a handuard with tabs removed, not sure to fully understand the advantages :p a picture Worth a thousand words :yingyang:

I think I found a pretty nice dye for the maple.
Now what I need is some spare time to fit the wood sets.
I'm already in another project so I must finish the first one before starting this one.

Today I received a letter from the police that says I can go to a shooting range with my CZ.
I was so happy, ordered a crate of those Dominion 7.62X39 HP.
This is gonna be hard to wait...
