CZ858 LRG Break

Ok this is going to seem just ridiculous when you read it but i wanted to make sure there is no trick or some magic pin i have to remove to install it. Heres the scoop, bought a large muzzle break from my local shooting supply store and i cant seem to get it to screw on, it says CZ858 lrg muzzle break on the package but i have had no luck getting it to screw on. It doesnt look stripped (either the gun or the break) and i placed a drop of oil on the break. I can get it to start off but half a turn later it tightens up and stops all together. I thought id ask here before i take it back and look completely stupid! lol. Thanks for any help or advice fellas!

how do the threads lot on the brake and rifle, since i haven't ever heard of the threads on the rifle being out of specs, i suspect it is the brake...who is the manufacturer of the brake...

The threads on the barrel look good to me, i have taken a wire brush and cleaned both the barrel end and the brake. I called the shop and he said it may be cross threaded (the brake) and he wants to try it and if it doesnt work he will get it re-tapped? Not sure what he means but i'd rather just have a new brake.
 
Are you pushing in the pin on top of the threads when you are screwing in the brake? YOu need to hold the pin in until you screw it all the way on

I am aware of the pin but my problem is after it initially catches i turn it once and it stops no where near the pin. Am i missing something? :S Ill still try what you are saying though!

THen I am not sure why. The only thing I can think of is that the threads on your brake are not correct and somehow came out wrong when it was manufactured. I just put one on last week and it just screwed on very easily requiring no force at all, it was actually very smooth and easy to do. Maybe you can return it for another.
 
Whichever is easier - Take the break back with rifle Or Take the brake to hardware store and find a bolt that fits its threads - buy bolt - lay bolt on barrel threads and see if they fit in eachothers grooves.also see if diameter is the same.

All the brakes/flash hidders for this rifle platform tighten past the catch detent. Hence why I always recomend to people to use yellow teflon tape ment for gas fittings.
 
I just used a flat bastard file and filed the bottom face of my brake. Going very slowly and checking often.

It now is bottoms up against the front sight tower just as the pin gos into the detente. Nice tight and flush. Mine was a Delask vortex.

The threads on my crusader were tight until after it had been threaded on and off many times while filing it for proper indexing. They were so tight that I cut my bare hand on the edge of the gills. It wont be anywhere near the plunger with just a half turn so thats not the problem. If its cross threading then there will be some damage to either the barrel or brake threads depending how hard you tried turning it. To be sure its going on straight, start by turning it counterclockwise with it square to the bore. Once it backs over the top threads it will drop back down and If you held it square then it will thread on properly. Works very well for fine threads as well. You'll feel it drop down, then start turning clockwise.

Don't force it. You'll bugger the threads. Can you take the rifle and the brake back to the store and ask them to try a different brake or two till one threads on easily as they are supposed to do?

Or just return it.

Both great advice. I have carefully tried everything I can think of without damaging my rifle or the brake and I decided I'm just going to return it and get them to order something from wolverine ( the large ported muzzle brake I originally wanted) anyone have experience with that brake? It looks awesome and I bet it is quality. Thanks again for the replies!
