Didn't know if I should have posted this in the "Camo paint guide sticky" or just make a new thread.

Anyways, the question.

I had stripped down the factory paint using sand paper (the fine grit wet kind ) and applied Krylon flat black heat resistant paint. It went well and looked good, but when the time came to clean it, the paint just started "melting" off. I don't know if it was the Windex (sometimes I use the hot water and Windex cleaning method) or if it was the Gunzilla / some other bore cleaner . Anyways, the point is that the Krylon heat resistant paint isn't resistant to solvents.

So I stripped off all the paint again, this time with a gel like paint remover. The rifle is now completely free of any Krylon / factory paint. It now has a very rough surface texture to it.

But I wasn't able to thoroughly take off all the paint, like the nooks and crannies around the folding stock and gas. It's around 98% free of paint.

So what I'm trying to ask is, is there anything else I need to do/prep to the rifle before applying Armacoat ?

Also, at this state (no paint), is the rifle now more prone to corrosion ?

It will be more prone to corrosion so armacoat it soon

The paint in the nooks and carnies as long as it is sanded the armacoat will have a good surface to adhear too

Cheers

I just did the same thing a couple days ago, though I had Krylon primer/camo flat black and only brakleen and paint stripper lifted that. Other solvents, including powerful copper remover didnt bother it. Anyways for the tight spots I used a small sandblaster to get the last of it. Do not paint over it as its been softened by the paint stripper and will cause the arma-coat to lift and peel. If you dont have access to a sandblaster then get creative with anything that works like steel wool, q-tips, toothbrush etc. You'll get it all eventually. As for corrosion you can oil it for now as you will want to degrease it before masking and again before painting.

Thanks for the replies.

Last question,

Does Arma-Coat have any outside distributors that sell their products (preferably in Toronto ?) . Or can you only order it directly from them ?

sandblasting is the best method. Here is my FSN-01F done in Duracoat flat black, I may redo it FDE...Summer project maybe.
