It keeps popping out during shooting.

The first day I took the gun out of the box it happined once at the end of the day. I took it home and put it back on, and went shooting again to have the thing fly off every 10-15 rounds.

Anyone else have this issue? Its driving me crazy

There seems to be 2 pieces in the assembly, the adjustable sight and a curved piece of metal with a dimple in it.

i wonder if your rear sight isnt seated properly if so then do the reverse of the intruction below , use a nail to hold the leaf spring down and slide the rear sight in .

below from VZ58 FAQ thread.

Curtton School of Installing a Scout Mount:

If you bought a scout mount from marstar or wolverine , the box is marked for VZ but the instruction sheet inside are for a SKS, altho the actual installation of the mount on a CZ858 and the SKS are the same , the removal of the rear sight ladder are slightly different and it has cause some difficulties . hopefully some day (maybe it have already) the instruction sheet will be corrected.

1. do your safety check.

2. secure your rifle on a vise , if no vise then have another person hold the rifle firmly but do not have their hands near the rear sight.

3. i prefer to use a sharp tool with a handle but you may use the "L" shape front sight adjusting tool that comes in the cleaning kit.

4. place the tool in the gap which is in front of the ladder , press in hard to depress the leaf spring below the ladder and with the other hand push down on the ladder and slide it toward the rear.

there is another technique to removing the ladder, when the tool is in the gap , use the sharp tool as a lever and push down and lever it towards the rear , the ladder should pop out , if using this technique then i would suggest you keep your other hand away from the rear sight cos the tool tend to slip.

5. do not remove the leaf spring , it should be in place when installing the scout mount.

6. heres a pic just to illustrate what it looks like without the spring in place , note how the ladder are held in place.

7. pic of the scout mount on the rifle.

8. should you want to remove the scout mount and reinstall the ladder then the procedure are reverse .

helpful hints. you may want to scrape the paint off where the screws are in contact with the rear sight block, as for you would want a metal to metal contact and not have paint in between, also its a good idea to secure the screws with loctite , once you are zeroed in.[/QUOTE]

Yes that is exactly what I do everytime it pops out. Press the leaf spring down with a flat head screw driver and slide the sight forward into the grooves and its clicks in. The problem is the darn thing doesnt stay and flys off every 15 rounds or so.

And yes it is in 100% even the guys at the range were stumped.

I dont know what to do.

Is it a newly purchased rifle? If so I would contact the distributor and see if they can fix it or if they are willing to replace the rifle.

I think it is also the spring, it looks to be slighty bent out of shape.

But on the first day of use?

I have not used the rifle much only put about 600 rounds through it since it was purchased brand new. I have been having this problem since day one and it has been getting worse to the point that I dont even want to shoot it anymore because of the hassel of having to re-insert the sight every 15 rounds.

I bought it locally in the GTA but what are the chances they will have a rear sight leaf spring laying around?

After another close look at it right now, the side where the dimple is seems to have a lack of a groove for the leaf spring to hold under. Im not really sure how to explain this.... but the groove that seems to hold the spring in place only appears to be on one side and causes the spring to be slighty off center.

i think you found the problem , the spring is not seated in the grove properly.

the spring should firmly fit inside and the dimple on the spring should also fit in the dimple on the sight , it should also be straight .

TeflonJohn from the looks of your pic it may be what curtton said "the spring is not seated in the grove properly." or it could also be that there was a VZ Scout Mount installed while still having the leaf spring in. I am saying this because I can notice from your pic the circles that remains once you remove the mount from your rifle. I think you should try replacing that & see what happens.

Sorry for the confusion, the pic is not a photo of my rifle and ive never had any scope or modification done to mine at all. I used that photo from the post above to describe what I was trying to say. I dont have a digital camera or I would take pics to show you guys but it seems like only one side of the sight rear lip was machined causing the spring not to be seated correctly. The photo I used clearly shows it has a groove where as mine only has that on one side.

I think it may be a defect from the manufactuer can anyone confirm? I also think my leaf spring has been bent out of shape due to the many many times Ive had to press down on it with a screw driver to get it back in.

What should I do?

what style spring do you have does it look like the one in pic

or is it different, I can send you a new spring no cost if you send me addy. I generally don't use a tool to install and remove them, I just press down on leaf really hard with my thumb(I have been told I have unusually strong thumbs though). It sounds as if your spring is worn out from over compression. When you get a new one try just pushing sight in without depressing spring it should go right in if you have rifle held good and are strong enough, that way you won't wear out new spring. My guess is that the sight was installed using exessive force, while the spring was not properly seated in dimple, and after shooting the spring seats, leaving it with little to no tension. Make sure the spring is properly seated before reinstalling.

UPDATE:

After installing the new style spring with 2 dimples (vs the one previously installed as pictured above) the problem has been resolved.

Special thanks to obiwanbonjovi and Satain for helping me out!
