CZ858 restricted/non restricted pix? pros/cons

Restricted has military spec barrel ( Chrome lined). Non restricted version has non chrome lined barrel.

So wait there are non-restricted with chrome barrels?? Then what really makes the difference between the Restricted and non-restricted? Whats the difference in the Military spec ones that make them Restricted. It cant be the chrome if there are non-restricted chrome lines, or can it and its just one of those stupid laws we have?

Its barrel length that makes the diff., nothing to do with the chrome. And yes, the barrel length laws are stupid.;)

OK so the military spec ones just have a shorter barrel? That makes sense this whole Chrome thing was just confusing me

They are both "Military Spec" since they where designed for military use. The longer barrel ones are usually issued to the artillery units and the shorter barrels to the infantry. Folding stock versions are normally for the paratroopers.

Where did you here your facts on the long barrel versions beening used for the artillery????

Reading history books on weaponry, watching various history shows, magazines. The longer barreled versions seemed to be assigned to the artillery units. I also read years ago that there was a Luger P-08 with a long barrel and it's holster had a wooden stock on the back of it that would attach to the pistol. Those versions were handed out to the artillery units.

are you talking about long barreled Cz 858 tactical 2's v.s vz58's? Im sorry man but your facts are a little bit off. The tactical 2 has a longer barrel to make import into canada easier the Czech military uses all short barreled vz58's. Where did you get your info are we even talking about the same carbine?

This is one of my Vz's.

Never said it was specific to this particular rifle. I didn't know that they changed the barrels to sell in Canada when they sell the short ones no problem. From what I have read and seen, "normally" the longer barreled version on the same rifle will be assigned to the artillery units.

That's some interesting logic but not at all logical. You have to realize that there are some incredibly knowledgeable people in this forum and it is clear that you need to get a lot more knowledgeable. Word of advice it is better too be thought a fool and remain silent than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

that was because they weren't issued rifles...

I just picked up one of the non-restricted 858's with a folding stock. LOVE IT! And, I will be sending it off to Rauch Tactical for their Tennifer treatment... IMHO, problem solved wrt the lack of a chrome lined barrel...

Gonna use it for deer hunting & I'm looking forward to buying all the cool accessories for it!

Cheers
Jay

Meh, I like the short barreled one's but that's just me.

Charles do you find it hard to get a proper cheek weld with the straight stock? Seems like it might be a little high for the optics set up you have. Also, how do you like the Sparc?

cheek weld is fine, it has not bothered me at all. I really like the sparc, its rock solid.
As for short barrels, our import cert was approved today and among the load of 300+ 9mm, .22, .223 and .308 blanks on their way to NEA, there happens to be stainless steel 7.62x39 blanks................... It looks as though we are going to be able to bring to market 18.75" and 12-14" stainless steel VZ barrels, installed and verified on your VZ for $200. To be sure that these barrels are resistan to corrosion we plan to have them sent for passivation prior to being parked externally.
