I bought a CZ858 NR rifle from wolverine in the batch prior to the come get it batch...

I love the 858 but I've got a good dilemma with the new bill coming out threatening the status of it.

To be clear I do not want to keep this rifle just to make a political statement. I don't have enough money laying around to have an expensive paperweight in my house. Even if the status goes to restricted instead of prohibited the rifle is 100% useless to me.

Based solely on the risks posed by this bill alone, should this be something I should be selling to someone else willing to take the risk?

Please refrain from turning this into a flame war. This is just a guy that actually likes being able to take my guns out on my property to fire.

Thanks

Brother it's your choice . I used to go ground hog hunting with an AR many years ago . it was accurate and fun . I would own another one if I was allowed to hunt with it but to just have one to shoot it on a range doesn't cut it with me . if more people were smart and kept the Liberals out we wouldn't be dealing with this garbage . the people who are making up these foolish laws aren't shooters or hunters and think we are all villains or criminals . I hope you don't have to sell it .

If you shoot at the range anyway I would keep it. Because it won't matter to you.

If you are like me and shoots rifles out in the bush I would try and trade it for a non 858 version.

If prohib it would be a 1000 paper weight for me as well. You could probably sell it even if it goes prohib. There will be people trying to rescue as many as possible

Keep it then you will be apart of the revered "Prohibited" group, then to buy other forbidden firearms

Umm, no. That's not how C-71 is going to work. The 858 gets its own prohibited class, which will allow you to buy other 858's. The Swiss Arms gun get a different prohibited class, which will allow you to buy other Swiss Arms.

With an 858 prohib, you won't even be able to buy Swiss Arms, and vice versa. Let alone any of the other prohib class weapons.

To the OP

I feel your pain. I like taking my 858 out to the field, and have even used it as a coyote gun (works great for this). It chaps my @ss that I'll only be able to take it to the range if (when) C-71 passes. Mind, it also chaps my @ss that I can't shoot pop tins with my handguns on private property where the nearest neighbor is over a mile away.

For me, I'm going to keep it. But I go to the range anyway, and have other semi-auto rifles in x39 that I can use for the same purpose in the field.

But I can totally understand wanting to turn one into cash, if you don't go to the range. Wall hangers are boring, especially when you could get enough money to buy a good replacement for it that you can actually use.

Oh, and $1K is a bit low. People are willing to pay more than that right now, to get "in" on the prohib thing. If they want to buy into that boat anchor class, and have an excess of money to do it, you should feel no guilt in separating them from that $$.

So your saying that if a guy is grandfathered into 12-9 that there is openness to other guns in that class other than what was originally registered to the individual?

Since the 858 (still) has an exact NR version, with less hassles, I'd sell it and go for a VZ 58.

Same thing for why I want a macabee defense SLR, to have a NR "AR15". If the SLR is a solid platform, I'm getting rid of all my AR15 lower rifle receivers.

CZ858 is the superior choice honestly. I own both the CZ and VZ and if you accualy use the CSA VZ platform you will run into a ton of issues over time.

I am in the same boat. I got a new CZ858 I don't know what its fate will be.

It's still possible that the bill could get quashed and the fate of the 858 and Swiss arms will
continue to be NR
If your worried and don't want a safe queen or range toy then selling it and getting another NR rifle like a type 81 is the logical choice. If by chance the 858 retains its NR status you can always get another one later

I sold mine because I don’t need a range only gun. The allure of the 858 was that I could take it to the bush but now I’ll probably buy a VZ58.

It will let you buy other 858's. You only get to buy guns of the same class, and the 858 is getting its own class.

If you ever sell your 858 and don't own another at the time, then you lose the ability to replace it. You must continuously own guns of the prohibited class, in order to maintain the license.

And from what I gather from the guys currently grandfathered into the other prohib classes, if you think restricted transfers are a pain, it's nothing compared the the transfer process for prohib classes, which involves a far lengthier verification from Miramachi.

And over time, your 858 will plummet in value, as fewer and fewer people possess the necessary license to own it.

Wr762 reciever from Kodiak defense ought to be a legitimate swap to save the rifle. But this is the RCMP's 3rd grab of 858s, so I can't see them leaving the rifles alone and calling it a defeat.

is there smeone offering to take all the parts of a cz858 minus the receiver and put them on a kodiak receiver?
