CZ858 - Should I sell or hold on?

They should hurry once the law passes the ones that own them wont be able to ship then anymore

If the receiver is cut in half (before the barrel and back half tossed away) and the rest of the parts shipped with it, why not? At this point it would be just shipping parts. If a person could just send the cut receiver/barrel and have the barrel installed on the new receiver that would be all that's needed I would think.

You are allowed to ship prohib rifles. Not sure why you would cut your reciver.

They are going prohib.....so what would be the problem cutting the barrel down to 7.5" from full length then registering it that way? Prohibs a prohib

Umm, no. That's not how C-71 is going to work. The 858 gets its own prohibited class, which will allow you to buy other 858's. The Swiss Arms gun get a different prohibited class, which will allow you to buy other Swiss Arms.

With an 858 prohib, you won't even be able to buy Swiss Arms, and vice versa. Let alone any of the other prohib class weapons.

To the OP

I feel your pain. I like taking my 858 out to the field, and have even used it as a coyote gun (works great for this). It chaps my @ss that I'll only be able to take it to the range if (when) C-71 passes. Mind, it also chaps my @ss that I can't shoot pop tins with my handguns on private property where the nearest neighbor is over a mile away.

For me, I'm going to keep it. But I go to the range anyway, and have other semi-auto rifles in x39 that I can use for the same purpose in the field.

But I can totally understand wanting to turn one into cash, if you don't go to the range. Wall hangers are boring, especially when you could get enough money to buy a good replacement for it that you can actually use.

Oh, and $1K is a bit low. People are willing to pay more than that right now, to get "in" on the prohib thing. If they want to buy into that boat anchor class, and have an excess of money to do it, you should feel no guilt in separating them from that $$.

Bear in mind a lot of ranges do not allow you to use "any prohibs" so you might want to check with them and find out what the policy is.
I suspect several ranges will make a situation specific call in relation to swiss arms and CZ 858
What often happens is the civillian ranges dont allow the prohibs meaning you can only use it at a military range, and they usually dont allow civilians.
I also have a $1000 paperweight by the way.

Fortunately I live in a Free Province. What happens at the club, stays at the club. And the Horse Police are also seriously un-interested in questioning what happens on private farmland.

To the OP, I'm in the same boat. The 858 is a lot of fun to shoot in the bush but if you don't get out to the range much it's an anchor. I'm still on the fence as to whether I will sell or hold on to it to see if the next government overturns this stupid bill and makes it non restricted again.

I bought a CZ858 NR rifle from wolverine in the batch prior to the come get it batch...

I love the 858 but I've got a good dilemma with the new bill coming out threatening the status of it.

To be clear I do not want to keep this rifle just to make a political statement. I don't have enough money laying around to have an expensive paperweight in my house. Even if the status goes to restricted instead of prohibited the rifle is 100% useless to me.

Based solely on the risks posed by this bill alone, should this be something I should be selling to someone else willing to take the risk?

Please refrain from turning this into a flame war. This is just a guy that actually likes being able to take my guns out on my property to fire.

Thanks

Well OP. Sounds like you could use the cash and if it's not non restricted it's no good to you. Sounds to me like you already know the answer.

Just claim ignorance.....I know so many people that are non a member of gunnutz.....and haven't even heard of C-71.....a non restricted rifle is non restricted to alot of people and they will continue to shoot it long after C 71

so whats the deadline for c71. when will it come into effect?
I have a feeling I might accidentally trip and drop mine in a lake.

Sold my two 2005s... regret it. Oh well. I'm moving to a bigger city and will be stuck using a range. If they do get banned it will be a pain in the butt having to explain the '05 proof date all the time.

As for my CZH2003s... "it doesn't say CZ-858 Tactical 2 anywhere on it, officer"

I saw them back on the EE again... wonder where they went and if I can get them back. lol
