Hey guys.

I tried to search on this, but I have no luck searching on this forum for some topics.

I love my CZ, but I love the look of the AR, so I am curious if one is better than the other. I understand personal preference always rules all and ammo (I own about 3000rds of x39) is cheap for the CZ, but how do they compare?

I have had both.

The primary advantage of the AR 180 B is that it can use the LAR 10 round pistol mags. This means for competition you have less reloads. Also it is 22 caliber which can be used for varmints in most jurisdiction. Compared to an AR-15 both are limited in the aftermarket goodies available.

Accuracy is about the same approximately 3 MOA with the cheap stuff and iron sights.

Personally I sold my 858 and bought a AR-180B. Ran that for the summer and decided to sell it and purchase an 858. I can live with the 5 round mags, and ammo is much cheaper for now.

I have owned both and I can not say that one is better than the other. The AR is much more expensive here, but in the states its the reverse. Go figure.

I think you made a good point about being a matter of personal preference. I too own both and I think they are both good rifles but I have a sweet spot for my 180. Could be just that I like not having to clean the 180 right after every range trip;). I would recomend trying to find a gun nut in your area who would let you take theirs for a spin.

I've done sub 3 MOA (4 V bulls and one 5 on a figure 11, I got lucky :D) with irons at 300 yards with cheap stuff (AE 55 gr), and I'm sure optics, better ammunition (and a good mounting system) could bring it down even more.
 
Excellent shooting your v-bull is about 3 X 5.

This is what the 858 was capable of yesterday at 300 after I sighted it in with a hammer. Old school. It is 2 MOA with chec surplus.

Another factor is the local hunting regs if you are planning to use it outside a range. In NB for instance, outside of deer, moose and bear seasons, you cannot hunt with a caliber larger than .23, so the AR180B is ideal for varmint hunting, while the 858 is relegated to range use only during this time. It is for this reason that I bought my AR180B. I am hoping, however, to buy an 858 within the next year or two.

I knew it was kind of a loaded question, but I had to ask....:D

I don't mind the extra effort required to clean the CZ, and I do own the surplus ammo already, but I do love the look of the AR. The price of the AR was what made me buy the CZ initially, and I have added a synth hand guard and bipod, not to mention painting the stock black. I guess I will wait until an AR comes up for sale....I do have a surplus No4MKII for sale....;)
