which of these two is the better/cooler purchase? i believe the vz is restricted and the cz is non, cuz of barrel length. any other differences? they're pretty close to the same price where i'm from, and they both come with the cool bayonet, extra mags, etc

The 58 is restricted, the 858 is just your normal take anywhere firearm. From what I understand both are mechanically the same. Barrel length is the only difference betweent the two. I would like to get an 858, but I think everyone is out of stock at the moment.

I know where there is at least one of each for sale. Brand new.
 
I have a VZ58, short chromed barrel and folding stock.
5 mags and a bayo on the way.
It's an assault rifle, not a bush gun!
Also doing finishing touches on a B&T style rail and a cheek rest for the folding stock.

Those are words of wisdom!!! I'm going through the same decision and that's why I'm going to get the vz58. I just can't see me using it in the bush that much. It's really a range gun for range games anyway...... from my civy point of view.

all you need is 3 more inches, can;t we perm a flash hider on there and get it to 18 and then we have the chromed barrel and unrestricted?
 
I think that idea came up somewhere else but wasn't legally viable, I guess inches of flash hider doesn't count as inches of barrel haha. I'm going to be buying a CZ-858 soon enough and its definately just for fun at the range in my case, wouldn't put much thoguht into bringing it out into the bush personally. I'd like to see what you have done with the B&T rail sixty9santa, I'm looking around for mounting ideas.

Not done with the rail just yet, as I'm missing a chunk of T6-6160 billet for the bottom rail. Then I still have to anodize it somehow.
 
I opted for the 858. i bring mine to the bush all the time. Ilove the fact that its non restricted. for range only play, my ar fits the bill
 
well as a Czech I know a little about these guns the so called VZ 58 sold here in Canada is trully called CZH 2003 Where the H stands for Hermex S.R.O. which is a company that Assembles the rifles out of kits with a slightly modified (they call it custom) receiver. The 858 tactical -"2" which is imported only to canada because of the (only canada) non restricted class is completly based on the original VZ-58 and built by Uhersky Brod the original manufacturer. In Czech they sell the 858 Tactical -"1" which has the original length chrome lined barel and they retail for about 6000 crowns = 230 dollars. magazines you can picup for 50 crowns = 2 dollars and folding stocks for 100 crowns = 4 dollars .....quite a markup we have here. cheers ....if you need any more info just ask ;-)

It *WAS* an assault rifle, it is no longer one as it lacks selective fire. Jeeze guys, you want these prohib'd too? :mad:

I would like to know where you can buy so cheap folding stock? Because cheapest costs 550,- Kc. Wooden chips stock costs min. 250,- Kc.

TO all canadians
AR-15 or M-16 clones in Czech costs almost two times more than in Canada or USA.
Vz 58 is czechoslovak gun so it is logical that they are cheaper there. I have been informed about problems with licences for foreign trade with guns /and especially like vz 58 or AR-15/ in so called European Union unified market and it is terrific work to make some business. And non EU countries are much more difficult - on CZ side and also on their own side.

Yes bvs.cz is a good source to view and compare ball park prices. In my most recent vizit to Czech and Slovakia I came across several gun retailers and army surplus stores where you could find even cheaper parts and accesories. Also thanks I haven't looked at bvs web for some time and as you can see Hermex has a new version of the CZ CZH 2003 S (Marstars vz58) http://www.bvs.cz/kulovnice_cz_czh2003s_short_762.html short short barel
