Many people install an aluminum railed hanguard on their CZ858/VZ58. Would installing a bipod on this handguard and using it to sight in the rifle change the POI?

Or would it better to sight in by resting the magazine on the table and holding the magazine with your support hand?

I see many pictures on the net of people using bipods on their VZ58, but I've also read that doing so changes POI.

I think on a bipod as illustrated in that picture, your POI should not change (much) as the bipod is not stressing the barrel. I would be open to other ideas on that one though. I rest on the mag instead and have never had a stoppage. Your mileage may vary.

the standard VZ58 bayo lug bipod on a non-restricted shift POI by 4" at 100. not good .

best to have it on HG or as close to it as possible .

On hand guard it will not change POI the bayonet lug bayonet will change it by 10cm or 4inches at one hundred. This change was made intentional since it extends flat shooting range by about 40-50m when VZ 58 is used as improvised squad automatic weapon(This is according to one of the Czech Books on VZ 58)

Thanks for the answer - but what if the bipod was a Grip Pod, and you held it like this:

would that change the POI? Is that holding it properly, or shoud I be holding the handguard? Thanks.

Don't put anything on the barrel and you will not change the poi. Thats true regardless of any firearm type. A silencer changes poi, a bayonet changes poi, etc.

All bipods that are on rifles except the ones on free floated hand guard tube will effect the poi on any rifle. The 858 is most noticeable when the OEM bipod is on but the one placed on the hand guard will also effect the poi as it to will disturber the barrels harmonics when the whip is occurring during the cycling process.
