cz97 45 cal.

As per IDPA rulebook.
Handguns permitted for use in this division must:
A. Be semi-automatic.
B. Be .45 ACP caliber.
23
C. Have a maximum unloaded weight of 41 oz., including an
empty magazine.
D. Fit in the IDPA gun test box measuring 8 ¾” x 6” x 1 5/8”
with an empty magazine inserted.
E. Be loaded to the division capacity of eight (8) rounds in the
magazine plus one (1) round in the chamber. Should division
capacity not be achievable because of lower magazine
capacity, load should be to maximum mechanical capacity of
magazine plus one (1) round in the chamber. Competitors
must use the same capacity magazines through out the
competition (Example: if you start with a 7 round magazine,
you must use that capacity magazine throughout the match).
High capacity pistols can be used as long as the pistol meets ALL
division criteria
.

That means you can use a CZ97 (if on an approved list), but can only load up to 8 in the mag for use in CDP in IDPA.

IIRC the CZ 97 has a full length dust cover made of steel (which takes it out of CDP) and is too heavy for SSP....

There is no 'approved list' for IDPA. You must be confused with the 'other action shooting sport'......

So factory full length dust covers are considered modifications? That extra 6-8mm of frame must give the gun a super advantage over a standard 1911 style frame. Silly. I don't shoot either IDPA, nor IPSC.

Whatever. Due to mass, it means that with the CZ-97, you would be classed as ESP and compete against the 92F's and CZ-75's in 9mm & .40S&W.

2.4 lbs = 38.4oz + empty mag.

The definite answer is no unless you can get it's weight down to 39 oz to meet SSP guidelines. Full length dustcovers are allowed in SSP only. Guns conforming to SSP requirements maybe shot in ESP or CDP depending on caliber but must meet all critieria for SSP in order to do so. In its stock form the CZ97 will not make weight of 39oz. The gun is weighed with an empty mag and not eligible for either ESP or CDP.

Gun is listed at 1150 grams = 40.57oz on the corporate web site.

If you can find a way to reduce the CZ97 weight to under 39 oz. legally, you are good to go. If you do, please post how you did it because there are a lot of CZ97 owners out there trying and have yet to find a way.

The CZ97 has a full length steel dustcover. ESP excludes such guns UNLESS the gun meets the criteria of SSP. Because the gun with mag weighs more than 39 oz. it doesn't meet the criteria for SSP so it can't play in ESP or CDP.

FYI the stock CZ Shadow has the same problem. The Shadow with lighter grips and windowed mags can be got to 39 oz. The regular SP-01 is a lighter gun than the Shadow and can get to under 39oz by using lighter grips. The CZ97, to my knowledge, has not been lightened by anyone yet legally to get down to 39 oz.
