Hi All,

Hopefully someone here can help me. I purchased a CZ97B from a fellow gunnut a while ago. Well the first chance I had to get it out and shoot it was tonight.

The mags(both of them) fall out(usally only about 1/2"--but the first time right out) when the gun is fired. Since the mag is partly out, it obviously fails to chamber the next round...

I firmly seated them, to the point I felt like I was bashing the darn gun.

They are black and appear to be made by "meggar" with a number "MG-WIT .45" stamped on them.

Any ideas? I could go back to the seller, he did mention this had happened to a couple of his friends and to talk to him if it was an issue...I just would rather fix the issue, like I said I have had the pistol for a while and it really isn't his fault I haven't shot it yet! (I have had it about a month)

Any ideas?

Both my mags that came with my CZ97B are Mec gar, If both mags are doing it I would look at your mag release and actually see if it catching the mag catch.

I have 4 identical mags. They all work fine in my CZ97.
With an empty mag slowly push it in with the gun slide locked open. You should hear a click, if it doesn’t click, remove the mag and with a flashlight look at the condition of the mag lock.

Ok, if I slowly press them in, I have to push on the side of the mag that the mag catch is actually on(fairly firmly) in order to make it click and seat.

Maybe when I was at the range I was hitting the other side with the palm of my hand and not making it seat?

I will have to try again on Thur night when I go out.

I did some reading on other forums tonight, they said this is a known issue with the cz97b and cz(in the US anyhow), will send out a new mag release? They also mentioned that newer generation of magazines have a different/square? shaped hole for the mag release to seat into? Mine is rectangular with a rounded end toward center of the mag.

Any of this make sense to you guys? Are your mags squared off holes or rounded?

I appreciate the help!:D

Mine are Mec-Gar -A- Rectangle with well a rounded back closer to the center of the mag, like all mags Ive seen. Mine lock in solid... Theres a notch on both side of the mags and looking at my mag catch its double sided.

I am heading to the range after work today again. It looked to me like my mag catch only has a metal tab on the one side..I will have to look again tonight though.

I will let you guys know what I figure out...if anything!

By the sounds of it, Improper mags...

MGGT4510 WITNESS .45 10 Standard B Right from The Meg-GAR website...

SO MEC-GAR Witness .45 is What mags you have. Not CZ97B...

I did read, I was just looking to see what it says on other's mags..

When I go to the MEC-GAR website, they don't appear to make mags for the cz97. It made me wonder if perhaps they were the same mag...

What is stamped on your mags? If I want to find the right mags, what would be stamped on them?

MEC-GAR - In the Center

Made in Italy - On the Front Of The MAG

.45 by the base plate then 1-2" up - A- On one side...

And back from CZ

"It sounds like a defective magazine catch. Those are the right magazines."

I guess that means looking into a new mag catch and seeing if it resolves things...

Who is the best source for CZ parts? I may respond back to CZ and see if they will send it to me.

I mean my mags got a little side to side play but not as much as yours..

But like I said my mag release looking at it well kinda has a double catch on it for both side... So yeah defective catch..

Are you sure it catches from both sides?

When I look at the exploded diagram in the manual(pg24):

CZ_97 Manual

This looks like my pistol - Part #32 seems to only catch on the one side..

Is there some other variant of this catch?

Those are indeed Witness mags. But as far as I know, they should be interchangable. Not a real fix, but the Witness silver plated mags are minutely larger. That might be a better fit.
