Czech ammo, ever again?

i dont like the czech stuff myself but would buy it if it was the only thing in the store and i wanted ammo right away, i find it more of a pain in the azz to clean my gun when i fire it. Everything is covered in black soot

. Everything is covered in black soot

I love coming home reeking of burnt powder :)

As for ammo, the Czech stuff shoots as well as any other ammo and is loaded on strippers. I'm glad I still have a truck full. If I didn't have buddies in the trucking business it would be a different thing entirely. Different shops have different products, and when it comes to ammo, the shipping can make or break a deal.

Personally, it really comes down to landed price. Corrosive or not, I clean the rifles the same after I use them. Its not like an SKS is a precision shooter at the best of times. If the surplus ammo was full of FTFs, that would be a different story.

I bought a bunch of the czech stuff to stockpile because it's the only stuff available (afaik) that comes on clips and is SEALED. I hate all the century arms crap that has had the spam cans opened and annoying stickers applied to each individual box of ammo.

It's all dirty my friend. I have thrown about 5 varieties of surplus fodder down my SKS, and it all takes about the same amount of time to clean. ;)
If we are to compare, I have to say that the Polish stuff is D-I-R-T-Y... but hell, it works well enough.

So upto this point no one knows why its disapeard?

Nothing lasts forever.
You can't keep pulling containers full out of Czech and Slovak and not expect to run out eventually

You do understand that since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Iron Curtain, those countries joined NATO and are now using western cartridges, dont you?
So the x39 and x54R is SURPLUS. They aint making anymore just for us

LoL!!!
That is why they are switching back to that cartridge cause they state that the 223 lacks the punch required.
But don't believe me read into for your self.
The key word we will say is...
300 Black out :p
P.S. How many rifles in the world today use the 7.62x39mm round? What is the #2 cartridge being produced in the world today behind the 22LR ;)

Is Ukrainian ammo available here?

I've had some, 1951 production according to the headstamp. Came in 20 round cardboard boxes with Century Arms, Montreal stickers on them saying it was from the Lungansk (SP, it's been a while) factory in the Ukraine. Shot well for surplus, comparable to Chinese ammo which has been the best for me. I got it from Tradex last spring or so.

Haven't seen it since. I have a few casings from it, as well as one of the boxes with the Century markings on it somewhere. If you'd like me to dig them up and post a picture, I'll do that for you.

As a side note, those boxes with Century stickers still turn up quite a bit, my current crate of Romanian stuff has those stickers too.

Haha ya it seems ppl dont think Im lookin hard enough, but honest to god Ive looked everywhere, its all gone!

I wouldnt mind if you posted a picture Id love to see what they look like.

I've got a crate of 1200 that I will sell you for $10000 lol. I kinda like the Czech stuff as well, among other things the fact that it is 1990s production is nice, as opposed to stuff from the 50s-70s.

Oh and to the person who said that 7.62x39 isnt produced anymore, you are wrong. The Czech military still mainly issues VZ-58s in 7.62x39 which are employed in Afghanistan, it will be quite a while before the CZ 805 is produced in large enough numbers to completely take the VZ out of service. The issue really is that countries arent sitting around waiting for WW3 like they were in the cold war, they produce enough ammo to cover what their military requires and their strategic reserves are nowhere near what they used to be. As a result there are not billions of rounds being rotated out of storage onto the market, not to mentoin that is becoming more taboo to release military surplus to the open market.

I hope that we will see more Czech surplus but we can't really know if we will.

Assuming you're talking to me, I'd be glad to.

Ammobox_zpsf1d7e96d.png

Here's the ammo box, its' from the Lugansk factory in the Ukraine, not the "Lungansk" factory as I previously stated. Oh well, I was close! I scanned the box with my printer, if anyone wants a picture of it, I can provide.

And here's a spent casing. That would be 270 over 51 with two sideways triangles on the sides. I'm assuming 51 means the date, which makes this some pretty early 7.62x39 ammo if I'm correct with regards to the manufacture date. This stuff was copper washed, a lot like the Chinese stuff. It shot quite well compared to Polish surplus, then again everything shoots well compared to Polish surplus in my opinion. It was good ammo, I burned through the 1000 rounds I had of it pretty damn quickly.

I have no live rounds left, I'm not an ammo collector and I doubt it's that collectable anyway. The only reason I actually have this box and a few casings of the stuff is because I gave it to a friend after I took him shooting as a souvenir, but he joined the Military and couldn't have any casings and such in shacks so he had to give them back to me. As I said, I got this stuff from Tradeex last spring or so.

On topic, I've never shot Czech 7.62x39 before. I've never seen it for sale on this coast before, and I normally mail order my surplus from wherever I can get a good deal, which is usually Tradeex. Budget Shooter Supply had some Czech x39 not so long ago, but he seems to be out of it now. Maybe we'll see some more of it some day. Between our SKS's and out 858's, us Canucks probably consume a sizable chunk of dirty surplus ammo from around the world. More so than most first world countries I'm sure.

That czech trash is the only ammo to ever misfire in any of my CSA/CZs. I also never get the broken case lip/hard extraction/stuck casing :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: with anything but that junk. In 4 different guns.

I love the chinese :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug:. The corrosive stuff is VERY mild as far as i can tell. But when you live in AB corrosion isnt really a thing.
