Hi! :)
All the time, I see people wanting to equip their VZ-58 with all kinds of reflex sights or scopes.
Were there official issue optical sights for that carbine and, if yes, which ones?
Are they available?
I'm only interested in historically correct setups.
Did such a setup ever exist?
PP.

Yep, OKO . Look on their web site for more info and pictures.
I've got 2 of them, One on my Beretta Storm and another on my Remington 870. Great quality and still hold the zero after a lot of punishment.

Just ensure to get the protective cover/shield. I believe it's an 70$ extra but worth the price to protect the sight. Main problem is if you do not have a true military picatinny rail, you might not be able to install the shield/cover.
I had the problem on my shotgun...

I order both from Freedom Venture in NS.
Just wondering if they still carry the OKO product cause I don't see it anymore on their web site. Otherwise, the American STI site can ship it here.

Not one Slovak troop I saw in the Middle East had an optic on his weapon but they were all pretty much line infantry or MPs on peacekeeping duty. Not sure about the Czechs.

So you say these molded-in accessory rails are common regular issue for Czech troops using VZ-58s in Irak? What is the regular issue reflex sight on them? Russian Cobras or OKOs? though, knowing the Czech, they might prefer anything not coming from their eastern "friend"...

How is the steel shield for the oko mounted onto the handguard?
Is there another rail on the shield for the oko?
Do you know if ventures carries the shield for the vz? this page doesn't mention anything about it...

http://www.freedomventures.ca/oko.htm

The shield is going over the sight and it use the same rail. Kind of extension of the sight it self. As long as the rail is long enough (before and after the sight for only few mm/cm)

Freedom can have them since I order both of them from there and if my memory is wright, the shield was about 70$, buy worth it!

So do you have to modify the handguard in order to have the shield/optic instaled? I ask because I don't see a rail on the vz.58 upper handguard.

There is two different type of sight/shield cover. I do have the picatinny rail one (W model).

I did not see the other type (The U Model) and since, don't know how it grip on the handguard like you asked. From OKO web site, it seems to have another kind of bracket that the shield will be screw on the handguard and that the sight will sit inside the shield...still not sure because I do not have that setup.

So in other words your .58 came with a railed upper hand guard?

Thanks for answering these questions, and I apologize if there are so many, just really want to know which way I need to go about doing this..

I do not have any VZ...yet,

Like mention in my first post in this thread, I do have two OKO's and the fact that they are the official dot for the VZ of the Chezh's army and many LEO's over there.

I believe the post with pictures from Norseman on page-1 seems pretty clear on how the "U" mount should attach, but again, I do not have this model and then, can only extrapolate.
Like the picture, you need a base on the handguard, than the sight will be fixed on that base.
I am sure some other people can help you more than me with the "U" option.

If you have an handguard with picatinny rail such as those from VZ accessories, you should order the "W" model (same as I have). Then the Protective cover/shield will be put over the sight.

Hope it help a bit

Yes, thank you.

So this mount, I know you don't have it :D, but I gather that it clamps onto the handguard itself, and there is an OKO sight for that particular style of mounting. There is also a sight that has a picatinny rail attachment, which is for people with a rail built into the handguard.

From some of the pictures that I saw on another sight, it looked like the shield was a part of the handguard, in which when you bought the shield it would come with the upper handguard already attached, and you swap it out.

I should just call freedom and see what they have for the vz specifically.

thanks! appreciate your replys.
