Although not perfect, I'm pretty surprised at how nice this VZ24 is from Lever Arms. There was a nice CGN'r who handpicked this rifle for me, as he was local. Stock is beautiful, UHG has a small arsenal repair, the fit is a little off and of course, it's a little darker than the stock. Ran a patch through the bore and it's bright with strong rifling, about an 8.5/10 on my scale. Bluing is excellent, must be a refurb of some sort. Bayonet is new in cosmo. Very impressed with the money I paid for this rifle, $350 + tax.

Anyone else buy one and care to post some pics? Don't see much love for the VZ24 on the board.

Yes i bought one from them a while ago, for the price, you simply cannot beat it for quality. I have owned several K98's mainly german, and the vz24 shoots the best, rivaled probably only to the Yugoslavian ones. nice bayonet too. I believe the ones that lever arms has are Romanian contract built, you can tell because the two initials before the serial number are RR, mine is ZR, designating a late war. Your lucky it looks like there is some of the crest still present!

I bought one about a month ago, and it's a very nice condition rifle. My serial starts with a DR. Mine has some arsenal repair as well on the upper hand guard.

The rifling on mine is very good as well, bright and shiny.

Bolt is smooth, and I can't believe how thick the Mauser bolt is.

My only gripe is a bit harder to see the sights. I've got astigmatism and at times its hard to see the front sight.

I may convert mine to a scout rifle as I bought a fixed scope at 2.5x30 and an AIM mount.

So by "Romanian Contract", what is meant that the Czechs were forced by the Nazi's to produce this rifle for the Romanians to use during the invasion of Russia. The numbering system was changed during occupation, the higher the first letter, the newer the rifle. I too have one of these fine rifles and had looked it all up - interesting piece of history that is for sure.

Wow, that's interesting. It looks superbly built.

As for ammo, I pretty much just reload for 8mm. I have no source of surplus ammo, and factory ammo here is $33/20. It's not a bad round to reload for. Lots of bullet choices and brass can be found easy.

They honestly sell for way less in Canada than you would think, small collector's market.

That's good for the people who want them, I guess. Very impressed with this rifle.

The 'new' in cosmo bayonet that came with this rifle fits my Yugo M48 perfectly (colour isn't far off either), as does the cleaning rod :d

I have one, such terrible sights - the rear is a teeny notch and the front is a big wedge. I got it at a local gun store with a bayonet and 2 smaller cleaning rod pieces. I got a ammo box of surplus 8mm from Wolverine Supplies in century arms marked boxes and then I got a couple of Turkish surplus on clips that come in a cloth bandolier.

I agree that rear notch is tiny as hell. Could another Mauser rear sight be swapped in with a larger notch??? Stupid question but it looks like some of the Mauser parts seem to swap freely between makers.

What a nice 'tiger stripe' stock, just going to clean, sweat out the cosmoline and oil it. The UHG is fugly and has an arsenal repair, I have other plans for it. Looking inside at the unfinished wood, both pieces look very close. I'm sure if I strip the black crap off of the UHG, it'll match (but will show the repair more).
