Czech VZ24 Mauser Rifle from Lever Arms

They honestly sell for way less in Canada than you would think, small collector's market.

you just made me sad

Michael I avoids me as well. Black magic doesn't work. BTW mine has Soviet Mobile Repair Facility cartouche on the right side. Does any of yours have anything similar?

Which one should I use? The black one is the one that came with the rifle and has an arsenal repair. The 3 surplus ones I got from Ebay seem to be in decent shape and closer to the colour of my stock. If anyone is looking for a VZ24 handguard, I'll be selling 2 or 3 of them in a little while once I decide which one (or 2) I want to keep. I think the one that came with my rifle just has a dark lacquer on it... I'm going to strip it and find out.

VZ24 all Finished!

All finished. Took it to the range and was quite pleased. Well made rifle. Wish the sights were a little more visible, but it's mostly my old eyes that give me the problems. UHG and bayonet now seem to match pretty well

These fine VZ24 rifles all came from the same original importer/dealer. They sat in his warehouse for ages with very little movement even with 5 rifle deals so they got sold off to other dealers to move, same thing happened with their SVT's.

I handled and inspected the OP's rifle and thought of buying it but settled on one in much better shape with a perfect like new bore. If the OP pictured rifle had a nicer bore I would most likely have got it too. There were about 5 or so with nice tiger stripe stocks.

I have some nice spare top wood pieces too, as these seem to get damaged and split easily with rough handling. Some fitted to rifles are Beech and some are Walnut.

There were a number of rifles in the original shipment that still had their intact crests but they got snapped up pretty quick.

I do have a K31 with a stock just like it although.

Bore was covered in Cosmo. Bright, shiny, strong rifling. 85-90% new.

Are these 8mm? Where are you guys finding enough ammo to make these worthwhile to shoot?

Yes, they are 8x57 or 8mm Mauser. Sporting ammo is available at most better gun stores but military surplus is getting tough to find. Most who shoot them a lot handload for economy.
They Czechs produced around 625,000 VZ 24 rifles for Romania. Most are arsenal refubished with a scrubbed Romanian crest. They are very well made rifles as are the Czech made German mausers. The OP's rifle has very nice tiger stripe walnut.

Lever's mantra..............Any requests regarding stock condition, color, side rails, finish, stock repairs or bore condition will be ignored.A friend called the store a 1/2 hr before the closing to buy 6 SVT40s on sale ...the sales clerk had no idea how to process an order.......fiddle ducked the time away then said." the store is closing" and hung up!Called and spoke to the manager the following day and was rudely told too bad..........great customer service and attitude! Feel free to post pics of your masterpiece... sounds like you have intimate knowledge of the whole batch

I feel I did extremely well for $349. It was popular at the range. I bought some UHG's on Ebay and one matched almost perfectly so I oiled it and slapped her on.

I would not call mine a masterpiece, if I take her from the safe in the near future I will take some pictures of her. Also I did not have the luxury to run a patch through every one, only the ones that looked to have a nice bore on first inspection, there was about 400 left at that point in time when I was inspecting them and only about 2 or 3 had excellent like new bores.

$349 is still a bargain for any of these fine Mauser rifles, you did well to get that one as the nice stock alone makes it a very worthwhile investment, all had serviceable bores.

What kind of wood did the Czechs use in their rifles? I have a post war Brno K98 with almost identical "tiger striping " to the OP's rifle. It is a lot lighter than my German K98 w/laminate stock.

I'm guessing that mine is walnut. The UHG that I acquired was almost the same colour and I'm guessing it too is walnut.

I just oiled the wood.

I'm guessing that the wood handles on the bayonet are beech. Reminds me a lot of the lighter VZ58 wood (I stained it to match).
