Changing to production division. Narrowed the choice down to these two. Which of these is better suited for IPSC production. Want it in 9mm and I want to shoot hard cast bullets. Advice appreciated.

You would probably be happy with either one, as they are both excellent guns derived from the same genetic pool. I tend to favor the Tanfos because of the features that they come with out of the box, and their barrels are better (hammer forged polygonal), especially if you want to shoot lead. All things being equal, both guns would probably need some trigger massaging to be competitive, so it really comes down what kind of ergonomics and features you prefer.

Have you had a chance to try both?

I have not handled either. I want something decent that can shoot cast. Everybody around here is shooting a glock or a 1911. Glock is out for me because I cast. Some say its ok some say it will create overpressure. I just do not want to have to worry about that. I also think a glock gun was designed for a glock barrel not a lone wolf or whatever. The other option is the 1911 in 9mm and double stack. I have a 1911 A1 in 45 and any other caliber just seems wrong. So the next most common gun around here is CZ 75 and coppies there of.

Sure there are folks that run whatever is hanging around the house and have fun. There are other folks who have the means to run anything and many of them are chosing the CZ pattern. I love my old 45 but I think the mag change on the single stack is beyond my ability to perform efficiently. In Ipsc you do not get extra style points for running a 66 year old gun. I like the game I am looking for the pistol the most suited for the game.

Well I've shot both and they are both fabulous guns though as I say, I do like the polygonal barrels in the Tanfos better. Both guns are very accurate and both will shoot lead just fine. The Tanfo won't need as much cleaning in the bore though, as they don't tend to lead up like button rifling does. That alone would be worth it for me. I think you can get both guns for similar money right now.

A 1911 in 9mm will score minor, so you'd be taking a huge hit right off the bat.

he is trying to decide on a new gun to use in production,..he usually shoots .45 in standard.

either gun would be great,...but I forgot to mention that the tanfoglio has the heavy barrel. I have owned both,....and prefer the tanfoglio,....although I own the stock-2,..not the stock. (essentially the same gun,..with full dust cover).

Like I said Jay,...get what you want. I found the DA on both guns will take some getting used to as you come from a 1911 background. But that is only the first shot,....after that it is SA.....and I found the reset on the Tanfoglio is slightly better,...although the break is slightly better on the CZ. (something you will not notice clearly in a heart pounding IPSC stage)

Go with the Tangfolio. Much better fit and finish. I shot one for a few months last year in Production.

Boo Hiss I wimped out

Boo Hiss I wimped out I bought the sp01 shadow.

Sean emailed back to me that the dealer sale was done on the tangfolio's. The inner cheapskate won out. Thanks for all your advice. Feel free to ridicule me on the range.

No range report as of yet. I only recieved the gun today, but it seems well set up for IPSC. One unexpected thing is it fits in my cr speed holster for my 1911.

As for being inexpensive, well my wife decided she wanted one too.
